Yeah, I was going to say peat, too, since the folks in our whiskey club who don't like peat use that to describe the taste, but the Glenmorangie mention throws that theory for a loop.

Delicious stuff. That along with the Teeling on the previous page are solid Irish whiskies.

Didn't win the lottery with George T Stagg this weekend, but did pick up a bottle of Stagg Jr as a consolation.

My father collects single malt scotches, and I like some good bourbons.

We (girlfriend, brother and I) were combing through his selection and had the Ardbeg 17 year islay malt scotch, and I can honestly say it is the best scotch I have ever had. When I went to the store to try and buy some...well...those that could have gotten it would have been out of my price range.

A few weekends later the girlfriend and I decided to make a night of scotch tastings to find something similar that we could afford and that we would like. So...now we are in the process of getting some of the scotches we sampled.

Scotch that we have picked up from that endeavor:
    • Laphroaig Triple Wood (the girlfriend really likes this one)
    • Ardbeg Corryvreckan
    • Highland Park 12yr
    • Glenlivet French Oak Finish 15 year
    • Glenmorangie Quinta Rubann 12 year
    • Balvenie Rum Cask 14 year
Bourbons that we currently have (I think):
    • Bowman Brothers Small Batch (not a big fan of the single barrel, and if you haven't tried Bowman brothers, it is a really good affordable whiskey)
    • Eagle Rare
    • Blantons (my favorite)
    • Angel's Envy Rye
    • Angel's Envy Port Finish
    • Buffalo Trace (neither of us like this...so we give it to company)
    • Straight Edge (it was okay, but after having Bowman brothers, we will get that instead and eventually kill of this bottle and not replace)
    • Some Kansas City Whiskey (that we were talked into buying, and are not big fans of)
    • Some Jefferson's Reserve (don't remember which...it is okay)
    • Some Willett (it is okay...recent Christmas gift...so...no complaints)
    • Knobb Creek (came in a fancy wooden case, so...I think it is supposed to be a nicer bottle, also a christmas gift)
    • Henry McKenna Bottled in Bond (this is pretty good for the price)
So...yea...We like our scotch and bourbon. Used to drink more craft beer. Not so much a beer drinker these days.

I don't waste my money on Pappy Van Winkle anymore, I bought a 23 year old for under $100 10+ years ago and it was terrible. Nothing but a nail polish bomb, I think a lot of people are getting taken if that is considered good.

Dude that’s no joke. My neighbor stood in line, almost a solid day in 20 degrees last year for the chance to buy a bottle. He cracked it open, poured me a glass and my life was changed forever :)

My man! I have about a quarter bottle left of the Corryvreckan. Such a distinct taste, but I really dig it. Pretty distinct divide between the first three scotches and the second three with regards to the peat. I love that Balvenie.

Nice bourbon/rye collection, too! I've had many of those, but not all. Currently searching for a bottle of Blantons to give it a try.

Edit: Actually rearranging my liquor cabinet at the moment. Might take a picture/inventory of everything.

This thread finally got me off my ass to rearrange my cabinet and make room for some stuff. I decided to snap a quick picture. Mostly good stuff and mostly opened. Only two are going to be held on to for a while - two Booker's from my daughters' birth years. Haven't decided when they'll be opened (Graduation? Wedding?).

    DFW, Texas ;)

The best part of whiskey is the fellowship - always happy to share a bottle. :)

It's a good stash, but there are folks a hell of a lot more committed than I am with some outstanding collections. There is a bourbon group on Facebook with some really heavy hitters. One day, maybe...
