How do you go about changing the dome light in the Tacoma's? I was wondering if one of those colored bulbs would work. I tried to get the cover off, but didnt want to break anything. Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Not sure what you are trying to do, but Pepboys has these blub sleeves that I put over the lights themselves so that I had RED lights vs. the white on both my map lights and the dome.... Looks pretty sick at night. :)

    Good Luck...

my friend tried the bulb "sleeves" on his truck and the sleeve started smoking like crazy...

Rockstar, you should get an LED dome light bulb... i got mine on ebay and it had 48 LED llightbulbs...it's bright as hell.
Here's a link to the one i got:
    http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/bliss-star?_nkw=48+led&_fromfsb=0&_trksid=m270.l1313
I got mine in Blue. It looks like he only had blue, or white as of now.

About the cover, i took mine off using a key... i wrapped a thin towel around it so it wouldn't scratch anything... you could also use a flat screwdriver

Wow - that sucks!! I will have to watch for it... At the moment I do not have my doors open long enough for them to heat up and smoke... Either way, thanks for the heads-up!!

    Cheers,
    D.

The light cover? Use a flat head screw driver and GENTLY pop it off... You will see a section on the light that should fit the tip in.

If you mean getting the bulb out - the map lights were a pain... Gotta just carefully pull em out with your fingertips... The Dome light should pry out with a finger...

So, use a small screw driver to remove the dome light cover.... i see the little slot on the driver side.

what about for the map lights? do i have to take the entire console off? or just the covers? how do I do that?

    thanks

For the dome light, I purchased a 15-LED set that had adapter "bulbs" and an interface connector. Just remove the backing on the LEDs and stick it in place. Much brighter........I bought the plain white.

I got them at Autozone. If I remember correctly, I paid about $15 for them.

Here are some pics on how to remove the dome light. There's more info on some of the head liner removal posts.

Replacing the dome light is explained it my owners manual, but I need to replace the “map” light bulb, also called the “personal light”.
No mention of it in the manual.
    Any help out there?

*** just realized this is a gen 2 thread... I have an '03

Quick question related to this - what size screw is used to secure the dome light fixture to the ceiling? I had to replace my fixture and have lost the screw/s.

I've done some searching online and on TW and haven't been able to find what I need. I also called my local dealer and they didn't know or have any on hand.

    Thanks in advance!
