So I got a 2005 v6 taco and was wondering if I could throw a 2015 v6 engine in it. Thanks for the help.

Are you doing a long block or a complete block?

Seems like I heard it has to do with that emissions pump, ECU differences, etc. The 2012+ motors changed somehow to accommodate that garbage.

The 12+ has a lot more emissions crap bolted to it more wires more sensors etc so you would have to swap a lot over from your early motor and plug some holes in the new motor along the way. Also do do the extra stuff on the newer motors and their age alone they're probably bound to be more expensive.

If you're doing a full motor swap with all accessories attached try to find one with the two pavkage that has the oil cooler amd beefier alternator.

Lastly the 05 and 06 I belive had different motor mounts so ypu may need the updated mounts but might not.

    YMMV

I would do a long block, and roll all of your parts over. Intake, exhaust, oil pan, stater, accessories.

I might get a chance to buy a 2015 motor with 9k miles probably the lowest one I’ll ever come across again here in hawaii. Was hoping i can swap some of my older parts on there and plug and play but i guess not. Already got an oil cooler and the bigger alt.

12+ has different exhaust manifolds and slightly different cylinder heads. This is to accommodate the secondary air injection.

All 1GR tacomas have the same block. 11400-0p041 it seems.

Stick to 05-11, there is no benefit to the 15 engine.

Nah mate! It's alright, a block is just the bottom, the main hunk that everything is attached to that houses the rotating assembly, or crank shaft. A LONG block is the block and heads essentially all the mechanical bits if a motor but no covers or intake runners. A crate motor is the buttoned up motor with plennum and sometimes headers but no AC/ alternator or PS pump, then lastly a dressed motor or motor with accessories would be essentially a complete drop in motor.

Thanks lol, everyday you learn something new. Yeah gonna check out a 05-11 motor tomorrow that a local salvage yard just took out, 750 bucks super cheap. This is what I get for not wanting to cut a hole in my fender for a snorkel. Hydrolocked the damn thing and now its a v5, one dead cylinder but she still runs.

possible that 05 or 06 could come with head gasket issues.

Yeah, I'd stay away from 05-06 for the head gasket issues and retain your motor mounts if needed.
