I have a stock 2015 SR5 with the XSP-X package. I'm going to place an order for lift components tonight. I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseam, as I've spent hours combing through this blog, but I have a couple final questions before I commit.

I have a 2" factory rake. I have decided to go with 887 coils with 5100's as opposed to the 885 with spacers and 5100's. I've been told the ride with 887's is more stiff than that of the 885's with spacers. Does anyone run 887 with Bilstein 5100's? Does the ride absolutely suck?

With the 887 I'm hopeful to gain 2.5". That will put me at + .5" in the front(over the stock rear suspension). I was going to add a Wheeler 1.5 AAL with extended length 5100's in the rear. In theory that should put me at a 1" rake, which would be perfect IMO.

    I toyed with the idea off a progressive AAL, but I'm not that scared of a rougher ride and would prefer the extra towing capacity as opposed to the possibility of sag. (I'm not sure how real sag is with progressive AAL...just what I've read.}

Wheelers told me to hold off on the differnetial drop kit and just keep an eye on my CV boots. I'm fine with that. I have about $500 bucks to blow on this and that opportunity doesn't come around often. Is there anything I'm missing that is crucial and/or of great value?

Thanks for any input. This is an excellent source of information and I appreciate each of you sharing your knowledge in this and other threads.

    Take care.

When you say (+5) what are you adding? Are you stacking the 887 coils on the 5100's with them preload to the top notch? Almost everyone will advise against stacking lifts.

So what's your set up now? Are you lifted in front with Bilsteins and stock in the rear?

I'm currently running the 885's with the 5100s set to 0 without the spacer and didn't quite get the lift I was after. I was running just 5100s set to 2.5 on oem springs and wasn't super pleased but made the switch without reading more into it. I'm not toying with the idea of raising the 5100s to the first setting up and keeping the 885s or just getting 887s.. I'm interested to see if anybody has any better info on the 887 ride though.

My set-up now is currently stock. I have 5100's for the front in my garage, but they are not installed yet. The "plus 5" was in reference to gaining a 2.5 inch lift in the front with the 887, making the front .5" higher than the stock rear (the factory 2" rake). Once I add the 1.5" AAL, I was hopeful the numbers would work out to a 1" rake. I understand Bilsteins are not meant to be adjusted when used in conjunction with lift coils.

(I fixed my post to try to be more clear.)

I have 887's with 5100's and the ride is fine. Not too stiff at all. Keep in mind you may need UCA's though. Also, after the install the truck was level but now it sits nearly an inch lower on the rear drivers side and that's with the DS spacer installed.

Thanks for the reply. If the 887 pushes me more toward the possibility of UCA's, I should probably get the 885's and hope they give me enough lift.

What the hell...887's it is. If I need UCA's or needle bearings...its just more stuff for the truck.

Also have 5100 set to 0 and 887. They ride great! Just don’t go adding a lot of weight, (bumper, skids, winch) they won’t ride as well anymore.

Do you ever plan on putting on an after market bumper? I had the 887's, put on a steel bumper with a winch and lost over an inch. Switched to the 886's and I'm extremely happy.

A bumper...ha! I still need tires. Maybe I should have kept the Camry.

Well, I'm committed now. OME 887's. Bilstein 5100's up front and 5125's in the rear with a Wheeler 2" AAL. I'll post some before and after pics when It's done and my general thoughts about the install and results. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I'm running 887's with 5100's set to 0 and the ride is a lot better than stock coils on the 5100's set to max. With full skids sliders and loaded up for a good weekend inna woods they still give me plenty of lift and ride even better. 1/4" Taco lean spacer on left side and KYB tophats.

I also have some pretty worn AAL's in the back also with 5100's and it sits maybe 1/2" proud up front when loaded down. Otherwise a 1/2" proud in the rear when empty.

    Either way ride is great.

    33" E-Load BFG A/T KO2's 37psig and I do run allpro's 1.25" uniball uppers.

    No swaybars.

In my opinion it's about perfect. Better than stock to be sure, maybe a little more stiff but less jarring if that makes sense? Feel very stable and a little more tossable, body roll is more pronounced without the front sway bar but I've honestly always prefered that. Makes flicking the truck round a sharp corner easier IMHO.

Planning on 63" Chevy's and adjustable Kings with resivors all around in the not too too distant future.

Good luck with purchase. I went with 887's, Deavers AAL in the back, 5100's at zero on all four corners. Right out of the gate I did SPC UCA's truck rides great and I got no complaints.

Needle Bearing will be a given at some point. It's a known problem on Tacomas. Lifting the truck makes it pop up it's ugly head sooner.

I originally put 887's on my Double Cab Long Bed. I wanted 3" height. The 887 and 885's have the same spring rate - just that the 887 is taller. Skipping the spacer is a good idea IMO. I also did SPC UCA's from the get go.

However, if you plan any front end mods that will add weight (steel bumper, winch, etc) then 886's are the way to go. Not as tall as the 887's but stronger. When I added my bumper & winch my 887's squatted. I put 886's on and got my height back.

Imn my opinion the factory suspension is mean to be soft and spongy. The OME springs will give you a better truck feel while gripping the road better. At least that's how I felt!

I'm in kind of the same boat, have 885's but want to add Aluminum Winch Bumper and Winch (about 110lbs total) Wheelers recomended 887's. They said more than 200lbs to the front end and they recommend the 886's.

So would you recommend running 886's over 885's with a spacer? I plan on getting a steel bumper eventually so I dont think 887s will do. Or can I keep the 885's and put the 5100s on the first notch and skip the spacers and get the same lift as the 886's?

Is it a guarantee that UCAs will be needed for a 2.5-3” lift with 5100s, OME coils and a progressive AAL? I was gonna pay the $200 or whatever for the lifetime alignment service from Firestone.
