Are you running over-sized tires? 33-35 tires would probably benefit more from gears. The tune is cheaper and easier to do so I would probably do that first. I'm still on stock tires though. It did feel like the truck lost about 1000 lbs when I first installed the tune FYI.

Waited up as well. Nothing like a nice cup of disappointment. My 1.02C started off good but after a few thousand miles my truck is running like shit. I’m hoping the next update whenever that may be keeps the awesomeness from reverting back to shit.

Im running 33 inch tires and ordered the ovtune flash kit to avoid having to regear. Most of my travels is flat highway. Im wondering if I can get by with just the ecu tune and no regear.

Matt also replied to my email stating that they are making a tune file for heavier rigs and rigs that have been regeared. I think things are just going to improve with each revision. Once he finds a way to disable learning it will be golden.

Is it even possible to disable learning in these things though? Missing my old STI dearly right now haha

Yeah, I learned a few cycles ago that Dyno day means we'll get a nugget or two of info shared but the reality is that Mat has a lot of demand on his plate. Some folks want a thorough write up of the Dyno results, but others are looking to get their initial tune files, and shipments, etc., I would take this delay in comms as a GOOD thing. This is the first tune cycle where he's had his R&D truck and is the first time he can log some real miles against the changes to monitor how things change w/ learning over time to get it dialed in. I have no doubt this is gonna be worth the wait!

I have a completely stock truck with the tune running 87 octane. For commuting it's good. For alot of hilly driving or significant highway work using cruise, I think it still needs a regear (I have not run 91 yet but will try that at some point). For the life of me I have no idea how people run larger tires and a bunch of extra weight and/or tow frequently with the stock gearing without blowing their brains out. I'm considering a mild overland build and for that I consider the tune (no matter how good it gets) AND a regear required. If you are mostly DDing it, I would tune first. If you do alot of towing or have bigger tires and you couldn't do both I think the regear would be more important. You can't completely fix the undergearing in this transmission with the tune alone. Even regearing differentials alone is a bit of a band aid. The true fix is to be had in changing the gears in the transmission (5 and 6 I'm looking at you)...but the cost there is prohibitive unless you blow a transmission and need to completely rebuild it. You really don't want to open up a modern transmission that is working as designed. Once the 3rd gen gets a few years older and there are more out of warranty that may become a thing when people who really use these trucks hard start blowing transmissions....we'll see.

I just got my 2018 DCOR a month ago and already want to drive it into a wall when I’m doing over 75 with its gear hunting. I’m still trying to learn what I can about the OVTune but this post alone makes me want to pick it up. Anyone have it running using a newer MacBook with USB-C ports?

Does anyone know if the next round of tunes that get sent out will be 1.02 or 1.03? And maybe a timeline. The suspense is killing me!

I don’t have the truck any longer, so I have no reason to keep the hardware. Tune was great.

If past releases are any indication, Mat will probably send out 1.03 to those waiting on their first tune (since it's close to being ready, presumably). I mean, everyone who already has their truck tuned is waiting on the new version.. so why deal with two rounds of emails with two file versions for the new guys? Nope.
If you want an older file you can email Mat and ask I suppose...
