Yeah I giggle at some of the cute ticklers.

On an other relative note, are you familiar with the hot springs on 70 at Woody's?

Woo, they let you out? I got red tagged once cause a air pod made a whistle. Brakes worked, bleed down and held pressure fine. Was it Cordelia? They suck.

Felt it pretty good in Alameda. I never wake up from earthquakes but this one was strong enough that I did for once.

Any of you guys have any experience with pop up trailers? Wife wants to camp, but refuses to tent camp or Tepui, so her options are RV (no way) or a trailer. Thinking a pop up trailer would be big enough for the family and light enough for the 3.4 to pull.

i had one growing up. Loved it and made camping easy for a small family. Very easy to tow and set up and break down. I'd buy another. You can snag a real nice one lightly used off CL all day.

That's what I'm thinking. Not a major hassle like an RV (and price tag) and small enough to store at my in laws property when not using it. Wife wants to go to Joshua Tree, but wants something other than a tent, so this could be the compromise I'm looking for.

tent trailers are a bit of a pain to setup each time you move, and its really annoying if you're traveling and want to stop for lunch or whatever. They have no insulation or sound proofing, so if its cold out, or noisy, fergit it.

We had a tent trailer for years, then got a Casita, and just last week bought an Escape, which is really nice but somewhat $$$$. The escape 21 is about the largest thing I'd want to tow long distances with a Tacoma.

some pics of the Escape on our Dec 27->Jan 1 mad run to Dallas.

tent trailers have heating and AC now btw. So its not like you're subject to the elements like a tent.

Good to know, Figured its as much coverage as a tent. She just likes being off the grounds, a bit more room and movable. If we camped as a family it would be for a few days at the same spot, so not too worried about moving around with it.

Since we're basically neighbors you're going to just let me borrow your Escape right? :D

Haha, I won't ever buy an RV, don't want the wife and kids getting too soft on me. My parents had one until last year after my step dad passed. Used it a few times and that is why my wife is hooked on them. It was only a 24' I believe, so not a bus by any means.

the AC only works if you have a large enough generator, or are at a campsite with electrical hookups.

yeah, our Starcraft had a furnace... on a cold windy night, you've only got a layer of canvas to hold that heat in. and don't neglect soundproofing if you're trying to get sleep and the campsite next to you is having a beer party around the campfire.

I had a really small Coleman tent trailer for a minute. Got it for really cheap. One thing to keep in mind is that the cheap ones usually have bad canvas. Replacement canvas is usually $1,000 - $1,500. And the canvas they use is substandard IMHO. Not waterproof and susceptible to mold. The bottom of the canvas drapes over beds and attaches underneath. So it’s not a really good seal. And because the hard sides are low, there is a lot of canvas so it’s hard to heat. And the construction, on the older ones, is wood framing, so look out for rot. And you typically can’t slide out the front bed without disconnecting it from the vehicle.

Another option is an older mini travel trailer, but they’re typically overpriced because there’s a whole cult following thing.

If I were to get a popup non-EAF trailer, the Aliner is the way to go IMO. Smaller, but hard-sided. They’re more expensive at $10k minimum for a used one.

Don’t listen to me though- I don’t like towing. If you’re looking for an option that works with the Tundra, I know a guy...
