That's exactly what I think when I see it too, cheap. I'm not a fan personally and would take the time to paint it myself. The chrome can be stripped pretty easily with heavy duty oven cleaner and a little time, and color matched paint can be had from several sources (I got the two-stage paint that I'm using to do my retrofits through automotivetouchup.com). Give yourself an afternoon to get it all pulled apart stripped and painted, let the paint start curing overnight and reassemble the next morning.

Glad it worked out for you. I'm afraid of the side markers. My last bulb replace went horribly wrong

List of useless skills I have acquired.

    1. How to Remove Tacoma headlights in under 30 minutes.
    2. How to shake out the bulb without getting it stuck in the middle layer of headlights.
    3. Remaining calm when the bulb falls out again, and I have to repeat the procedure
    4. Realizing I can disconnect the harness and install the bulb before installing the headlight
    5. Resisting the urge to superglue the f'ing bulb in place

I stripped the wire back about an inch and duct taped it to the stereo housing...basically grounding it. No parking brake or bypass needed.

Helped my mom move about 20 minutes down the road. Used the Uhaul for the big stuff of course.

Appreciate the advice. I’m more of a take my time and do it right kinda guy so this appeals to me.

I love the look of that. Looks very clean.

It says on the site so you can confirm, but I think it’s 12.5x1.25. Definitely double check that though.

I was having problems with my LED fog light bulbs lens on the tip coming off and laying in the bottom of the lamp. After jackin around for 30min each fishing the pieces out after 2 sets doing the same thing and the company replacing them I grabbed my shopvac, shoved the nozzle to the hole and slurp...there it goes! Stuck the old ones back in W/O tips.

Thanks! This might be a spring project. It's showing 22 degrees but feels like 8 in Kingsport today. I'm over the cold weather.

    Just a few LEDs...
After helping numerous others get their vehicles moving again after getting stuck in the snow, I got just a little stuck when I got high centered on a snow drift. After some minor digging and the application of some sand, I got moving again only to see two more vehicles stuck on the way home. People here are stupid!

Always carry a shovel and something to use to help give traction. Sand, gravel, Max-Trax, etc.

I wish that worked for the side lights. There are actually 2 layers of hard plastic and then you have to take a 45 degree bend to get to the bottom of the light. If that's not hard enough, you have about 6 inches of room for your hands, unless you pull the battery. Toyota solved the space problem by putting the bulb on a long "stalk" to reach into the headlight. Problem is, the bulb doesn't lock into the socket and if you bump it will fall into the headlight. Now if you're lucky, it will fall behind the visible portion of the headlight and you can just leave it in there. In my case, the bulb waiting till it was fully inside before it fell out (twice).
FYI - replacement headlights come with the bulbs already in place, and you just have to swap the harness clip. Apparently Toyota knows these bulb are a pain in the ass. If mine ever burn out, I'll have the dealership change them. It's worth the money to let someone else struggle.

That clip is the work of Satan. It's a little easier if you pull the dust/moisture cap off first, but that clip is still a bugger. Seriously old school design that never works right. I had to fight with those clips when I installed my silverstars, and again when my headlights were replaced with the TRD version. I'm collecting quite an array of OEM headlight bulbs.

o_O.... true that you don’t need a bypass for it. Maybe consider a little more permanent or professional method. There is the motto of some though.... “can’t duct it, fuck it”
