Toyotally Awesome 2012 4x4 DBL Cab

Cruised up to big bear for the weekend. Ran a couple easy trails..
2N01 to Heartbreak ridge to 2N02 (Burns Canyon) back to Baldwin lake.

First time actually wheeling the truck and I have to say I'm stoked on how well it did. I still have some tire rub issues up front to address. Need to hammer The pinch weld down and trim more of the plastic inner fender. The auto limited slip leaves a little to be desired but that was to be expected. Will fix that down the road.

Heartbreak ridge had some fun sections. Ran the AC the entire day lol

Nice. I still need to get up there before the snow comes in, but I have plenty of rubbing issues as well.

 

Get a bigger hammer.

Tons of trails up there. Looking forward to doing a little snow wheeling lol.

I even got to use the sliders on a section or 2.

Had a great time out at Cuddeback dry lake over thanksgiving. Towed the pop up out with the taco.
Had to play tetris to get all the shit in the tiny bed.

Wasnt all puppy and balloons.. had a a few broken trucks cracked frame and another buddy had ripped a beam mount of on his ranger.... with the silly scissor suspension



Had a buddy of mine tow out the Prerunner. So naturally drove the prerunner most of the time out there.





We did take the taco to the prison and to pinnacles.

yesterday finally got my life together and installed the rest of the skids plate I picked up months ago....


Fired up the paint booth and painted the gas tank skid


Also started rock light/bedlight project.



This little guy.....might just live in the worthless tray.. Does any one actually use this ?



Haven't wired anything up just yet should get both knocked out shortly and then on to the next thing....

 

OSH was out of ABS pipe soooo...

 

It's supposed to be for when you're really rock crawling and dont want airbags on when you're about to flop at low speeds or something. I always forget to do it.

Good idea on adding a new switch pocket. My reverse lights switch is currently falling off (go figure China sticky backing is weak AF), guess i know where it's going for now...

I really liked it lol - one thing I'm curious about is the winch mount. My friend / fab guy is adding one for me to a prerunner bumper he made and is getting rid of now that he's caging the front end of his truck. We're adding a winch similar to the way yours is - I saved all the pics you had of it and showed him. If you have any up-close pics of how it's mounted and how you get to it to remove it and work on it that you don't mind sharing that would be awesome. Any tips are welcome as well! Basically to pull the winch gotta remove skid plate in front, then hellas. 4 bolts and that's it... To be honest haven't pulled it since i installed it

Got it - so you have enough space above the winch with the lights out to pull it through the space above it between the bumper and the truck. I was thinking the bolts by those two vertical bars in front of the winch might have had something to do with it even though I saw the plate that the winch is mounted to is welded into place. Awesome design. Thanks brother. Hopefully I'll be out there on the trails by next fall and maybe see you guys out there!

 

What winches did you guys use? I have a Shittybuilt XRC8 on my rock donkey and remote mounted the relay/control pack on my core support, would make getting it in and out for your setups.

Are you talking about the 4 bolts bolting the bumper onto the front crossmember?

 

Yeah that was my bad - it's the four bolts on the plate that the winch is mounted to. I wasn't sure about the ones that bolt onto the crossmember being something related to the winch.

I've got an xrc8 from my old bumper that came with the truck. I wanted a synthetic line so I'm looking to buy a new one and sell the xrc8 due to the price of synthetic lines being a good chunk of what a new one would cost.

 

The actual guts of an XRC8 for the control pack inside that plastic box is like 1/3 the size of the box, so super easy to remote mount the control pack behind the core support, then put the controller mount somewhere easy to get to, mine is in my grill. Makes the packaging of the rest of the winch really easy. Ya the diff between the "comp" and normal XRC8 is well worth the synthetic line since most syn line is generic china stuff anyway, and a standalone line is way too much money. I added a trail gear line to mine, it's meh. Nice syn line is nice.

The 4 bolts on the bottom there so you can removed the TC sub frame. the winch is just off the 4 bolts attached to the plate....

I have had 2 super winches

SuperWinch EP9.0 winch With 100ft Synline on my rover.

Superwinch 1145230 Terra 45 4500lbs on the mouse. Its actually a UTV/ Overland quad winch lol but my truck is so tiny it works

Both have worked well

Greased the upper bushing so they would stop squeaking on every bump lol
Rotated tires

Picked these bad boys from @christyle few weeks back finally got around to installing them truck rides way better with them.. I think the stockers were pretty tired.



After adding the skids and sliders front lost probably an inch of ride height.
So, need to crank the front more and break out the angle grinder again take care of a few spots I'm rubbing. Also I have noticed some creaking/vibration coming from the skids. Going to add some rubber washers to hopefully get rid of that.
Thinking about doing the 3 leaf Add-a-leaf and ditching that lift block to get rid of the shudder @DMCtacoma is trying to talk me into airbumps out back...

 

I checked my filters awhile back and all looked good. Do you live in a sweater factory, looks like you could make one with that junk in the cabin filter...

I went with archive garage super bumps on mine, we'll see how they turn out...

 

right ! lol I think I have the black lung now. But on the upside I have a new sweater for the holidays next year.
