It's less Tacoma and more mod
You'll never really be able to get all of your travel with an aftermarket leaf pack without relocating the shocks, no real downside to keeping the factory spare location though unless it interferes with your shock mounts haha. Also it is a pain to get to in mud and dirt.

I always relocate the spare to the bed prior to wheeling/exploring more than forest roads. Tucks in nicely between a large storage container and the wheel hump in the bed. Ratchet strapped in, it stays put.

And hover over my blue thing below the avatar for lift info. IIRC rear is up 3.5-4.5" over stock but don't quote me on that. Only difference is i'm now on 33x12.5x15 Falken WildPeak AT3/w's and i have LR UCA's.

    not a bad plan really.

Can't fit wide tires down there. Will hit the axle. Sucks to take out on the trail.

You can pull pretty good travel from the stock locations really. Most leaf packs only do 10'' of travel anyways. However, you usually have to limit the up travel to save your shocks. So you aren't getting the most out of the pack. Plus you can set them up to tune much better as well so they work better.

But if your goal isn't 100% offroad stuff. No big reason to relocate.

After I found out I had the wrong driveshaft and I kind of stopped everything: I just have to put the starter in, the front driveshaft, and the interior back together and I should be good.

This won't cause any adverse damage to the transfer case or front driveline? Is there a speed that I shouldn't exceed?

There is a driveshaft shop nearby but I'd have to take the freeway down there.

    No shouldn't matter.

I mean...Toyota says to not go 55mph in 4wd. But thats due to Tcase binding(when you have actual 4wd). But i have hit 70mph in 4wd no issues. Hell i drive every day to work in 4wd practically in the winter.

You'll be fine. Might feel different being a fwd tacoma :p but you should have to worry about anything.

That's awesome to hear. I thought I would have to rent a car or something until I get the right driveshaft. Was really disappointing having that rear driveshaft mounted (I put a brand new OEM carrier bearing on it) and have it not fit on the flange.

This swap has sure been a pain in the ass but seeing that driveshaft not fit was discouraging, lol.

The front portion of the rear driveshaft was a.) too long by about 3/4 of an inch b.) the flange was completely incorrect with the wrong hole spacing

Let me find some pictures. I never realized they had different sized flanges over different years.

The original PreRunner D/S is on the left, while the 4WD one I bought is on the right. As you can see the hole spacing is completely different (the flange isn't even the same just by looking at it), and the length is off by about 3/4 to an inch.

I tried the PreRunner D/S on the transfer case and it fit fine.

Could it be that Frank is a 5 speed? I know the transfer cases are different between I4 and v6 (top shift vs. forward shift) maybe the transmission mattered too.

Anyone ever try putting a Tundra gas tank in a 1st gen? I found a FREE 22gal from a 2014 tundra and just wondering about getting better range (other than carrying 5gal tanks which is the norm). I can't find anything about dimensions on the tank size and bolt-up patterns AND if the tank will hit the driveline.
    Open to the input.

Frank is a 5 spd with a J shift Tcase.

Two kinds of Tcases too, the electric shift and J.

I haven't seen that, Have a buddy that added a suburban tank to the back where the spare tire was. Gets about 60 gals and 1000 miles of range haha

Would doubt the tundra tank would fit easily.

    You have dual transfer cases?

Didn't think it would fit but, never hurts to ask. I was thinking about adding another tank like what your friend did (thought I saw a thread somewhere about it, no?) bonus would be that it would ease up on that Taco lean a bit with a more centralized tank.

I saw a gas tank made for a 2nd gen 4Runner on Craigslist that mounts where the spare tire carrier is, it even lets you retain the spare tire carrying abilities. Added 60 gallons I believe
