Extra tax on toasted sub from Subway....

Just noticed today, at Subway, get your Sub toasted and it's an extra $0.46...

Say what? I researched this a bit and from what I gathered there's a tax for serving "hot" food in this state

WTF? I know they like to take all they can and give little in return, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what the state does 1. To earn this money and 2. What they use the money for?

As in, most taxes are 'supposed' to go into the upkeep/training/maintenance of the product/service on which is being taxed.

So, they provide toaster oven training with this tax

 

Went to Target over the weekend to get some things. They had 24 packs of soda on sale for $5, so I grabbed a couple. After going through checkout I noticed on the receipt that there was an extra tax per 24 pack of $1.60 (I think, i dont remember the exact change.. it was a dollar something) I asked the lady about it and she said it was a tax on water that was used to make the soda...

 

wtf???....that's crazy but i here that's the way things are heading...there's gonna be taxes on soda and stuff like that

 

There is no tax on the water used for the soda. Its a CRV (california redemption value). Its the front tax that you get back for recycling.

In anycase, the tax on hot food is a weird thing that gets into the logistics if food is sold for immediate consumption etc.

Look at the grocery store reciepts. The break it down into taxable and non taxable.

Its quite confusing.
