I recently purchases aftermarket tail lights and tried to install them myself. These are not the first tail lights I have ever replaced, but first as far as tacomas go. It somehow triggered the brake light switch and sent my truck straight into a brake override malfunction. Has anyone else had this issue? And if not, how do I replace my tail light without this happening again?

    Welcome to TW @Kristiann13 ;).
Not sure I understood your question.
Are you trying to say that when you attempted/replaced your truck's tail lamps, it triggered brake lights which caused your trucks brakes to fail/malfunction?.
From what you wrote above, reading word by word, that's what it sounds like? o_O.
I think you may have perhaps got your wires polarity wrong when you wired up your connectors, or you got a faulty unit.

Welcome to TW. What taillights did you install, and what was involved in the install procedure? Obviously they were not plug and play, maybe some pics of the wiring may help members reslove this issue.
Also could be a stated above, a faulty unit.
If it is not too much trouble could you reinstall the factory tails, with battery disconnected, then reconnect battery and see if fault is still there.

So it’s an uncommon problem, but when you have the brake override malfunction pop up, it literally locks your brakes, transmission, and steering and wouldn’t allow me to start the truck again. I had to have it towed to Toyota to see what the problem was. I have the stock lights back in now and toyota was able to fix the problem, I’m just scared to ever touch the tail lights again after what it did the first time. I don’t have the tail lights with me at the moment but will post pictures of the wiring on them tomorrow when I am able.

Wow. I certainly did not know that..
I suppose the conversation w. the Toyota dealer was awkward.
Glad to know it's back OK.
