That was the main reason I sold my truck. It had all sorts of issues but the howl was the constant reminder of how much I wasn't enjoying owning a Tacoma.

    So
My Tacoma has had noises in the rear diff since 5000 miles
The truck is now at 27,169 miles and the truck (in my opinion has a failed diff)
The howl used to be bad at 70mph or higher
Then it started being bad at 50
Then it started clunking when going over bumps.
Then it started wheel hopping when making turns
Then it started not going the speed reflected on the speedo
It would say 50 and you were clearly going 35 as verified by using ways navigation app.

The day I dropped it off this week
At 35mph sounded like I was driving the truck at 80mph with all the windows down. And it was getting a severe driveline vibration that was shaking the whole truck. It's now at the dealer with a master technician assigned to it.

I know for a fact there are metal shavings in it and I imagine broken teeth as well.

I have no idea what the outcome will be but both my service advisor and a tech have driven my truck and say it's not right.

I have a video on my Instagram of the diff making a clunking noise with a ton of play in the wheels

Should tag them on their Facebook. Ha. Publically shame them. I'd bet that would get a response real quick

There is a reason why this vehicle was rated the worst vehicle in Toyota's/Lexus's otherwise stellar reliability rankings.

Is it really because this was Designed and Manufactured in America? Are we really that fucking bad at shyt that isn't software and retail? I remember when Made in America meant quality, but right around the 80s that all went to shyt for some reason. My parents were GM exclusive, and they had the worst cars that I have ever had experience with. They no longer buy American cars.

I have been on the lookout to see if the big bad wolf sneaked into my diffs.
    Fortunately there is no howl.

    Lift it up
Rotate the wheels back and forth by hand

There should be little to no play and no clunk
At most normal would be a small click noise

I have a clunk and or yoke slip when cold in addition to the howl. I'll have to try the test.

Take your truck for a drive
    Let it all warm up
    Pull it in the driveway
Pull the fill cap and stick a magnet in there and see if you pull out any metal....

Have you tried Twitter? It works wonders with corporations. I blasted lowes a few weeks ago because they charged me for a product saying it was delivered but the manufacturer never shipped it. Long story short they wouldn't refund me and told me to take it up with credit card company. I got on Twitter and within 4 hours my money was refunded.

We should all goto San Antonio and block the CEOs and CFOs parking spaces and demand a buy back ha. Imagine Jim Lentz peaking through his blinds on the 30th floor down at the mob of Tacoma owners. Ha.

Or maybe do a video blog. You can spear head the assault lol.
