That would be a great, a step by step with easy to understand directions. The directions on OVTunes site seemed a little "scrambled" up in order of the pics and the steps... The PCM flash is what gave me the biggest problem first was a failed download then it didn't want to load because I had my virus protection on. On top of that the instructions missed a step about hitting the settings in PCM flash to show the read, identify screen. Or maybe I am just a moron lol...

Yup, its not easy to document all situations that may arise. A lot of guys here got thru the process, and experience trumps all. Reach out like you have, someone will jump in.

@OVTune I would test it out as well, as I am another 04B10.

What's with all these different 04B10, etc? How do I know what I have?

There are three versions of the stock tune (or has it been confirmed that the '18s are a fourth version?). When you read your stock tune in pcmflash, it will tell you what version you have. Since you have a 2017 model, I think you probably have 04B12.

You didn't hurt anything. I did my read before I did the identify. The identify step just provides additional stock tune info. for OVT.

No need to know, since the tune isn’t worth the price. Right? :notsure:

Just validating why your experience with stock tune is outright "dangerous", while mine is manageable :)

have you bought the kit? if so, you read your ECU with the software to know which version you have since they behave differently. the earliest tune is 04B10 and that one is not fully developed yet and has some issues. xx11 & xx12 haven't had the same issues. you can only know for sure which version you have by reading the ECU with pcmflash.exe that comes with the kit.

Well, that won't be happening anytime soon, need to pay off some credit card debt from Christmas :(

Honest question. Who here on this thread, that has 04B11,12, has this tune and has enjoyed it more vs stock? Seems like most complaints are from 04B10 owners

you're not going to get a totally clear answer here, but yes, xx10 guys are suffering the most since they don't have all the available ecu controls that 11 &12 have, but Mat is working on what can be done.

I'm on xx12 and it is fucking awesome since the beginning. defco and rev hang getting fixed would be nice, but those are deep in the ecu and we're not sure yet if those can be altered, at least that's my understanding so far. aside from those 2 things I'm very happy over here. and also looking forward to the next upcoming MT file with new ignition stuff.

Wow, sounds like night and day... I will say it's lethargic (04B11-12, assuming I have it). All those things you've mentioned would be nice to have done away with and make the engine more snappy

I second this. 1.03 is awesome on my 04b12. Going from stock to 1.03 as my first tune I was blown away in how much it’s changed the performance of my truck.

Especially when you consider this is a tune for an NA truck, not some turbo sedan or coupe... It's pretty impressive what Matt did with it so far, and it sounds like the latest iteration in the works would blow everything else before it out of the water as well

I've gone back to the stock tune at this point. OV contacted me yesterday stating he should have a fix for the misfires soon. Im looking forward to testing it and will provide datalogs for before and after. Mine is a 17 with a 04B12 ECU.

having tuned NA motors before, i agree the work done on ours is significant. usually you get just a little bump improvement with a NA tune, but this one gets you quite a bit more and seriously straightens out the throttle mapping that is a nightmare from the factory, so the driving improves massively with the tune.

Exactly! The midrange power was the biggest surprise for me there's a massive bump there. I mean I can tool around a parking lot in second now without having to downshift or go at least 20mph to avoid lugging so bad the whole truck starts jerking back and forth. That was a highly undesirable characteristic of the stock tune... Being in second gear it was pretty much like under 1800rpm the power output was ?? Because sometimes it would just lug and fall on it's face and I'd have to downshift or it would stall and now with the tune I can get down to about 1200 rpm in second with no ill effects

    back atcha.. EXACTLY!

having that torque improvement down low has literally transformed the truck alone, just that.. being able to use 2nd at low speed or even keeping her in 5th or 6th going up a hill. simple driving things where you don't have make weird compensations like i was constantly doing before the tune, even with the Pedal Commander.

CPS tested fine, stock tune rarely misfires, using either OV tune the truck breaks up under moderate load. All data from techstream shows the CPS is fine.
