So what do you guys think? I'll be purchasing the ball joint and bushings so I'll basically have a new set of spc control arms. But I don't want shit to fail unexpectedly. Is it worth it to switch over to uniball? And what are the most reliable/reasonably priced?

Aaaaaaaahhh... crap! Well, at l;east you can buy new ball joints, and I think that they have improved them too.

But, safety first. I never had problems with my SPC's, but then any problems that would have occurred are now someone else's.

 

I tried that, and it does come with a locker. She's bellied up in packed snow.



Farmer neighbour is coming over after lunch and feeding the cattle. He has to thaw out his big-ass tractor. I also checked my warranty booklet, and the Roadside Assistance program provides a tow service for free, even if I'm stuck! But they are overwhelmed in this cold weather.

I have Total Chaos and I like them. Just need to keep them greased and cleaned.

 

I'm thinking of going with the icons with the delta joint. If I can pick up a used set for a decent price I can retro fit the delta joint into them. For now I'll run the spc's.

Heavier steering feel, because the massive 1" or 1.25" uniball has more friction than a typical grease-filled ball joint.

Mine (FK 1.25" bore) have no freeplay after about 85000 km. Every few months I give them a squirt of telfon bike chain lube.

Get Total Chaos because they use stainless uniballs with stainless spacers (as opposed to chromoly ones on All-Pro arms). Heim inboard joints are not necessary. ("Base" versions with urethane bushings are good enough.)

 

What are your opinions on the delta joint offered by icon?

 

There's no boot on the Icon delta joint, so contaminants will get in the same way as with a uniball, though I suppose you can flush it out by greasing.

Replacement delta joint seems to be twice as expensive as a replacement uniball bearing, if prices on Icon's web site are typical: http://iconvehicledynamics.com/shop...p-toyota-tacoma-delta-joint-retrofit-kit.html

It is likely the delta joint will fit in UCAs from other mfrs that were designed for 1.00" uniballs (TC, Dirt King). Maybe used TC UCAs are more available than used Icon UCAs because TC had a 5-year head start in the market, just speculating. UCAs designed for 1.25" uniballs (All-Pro, Camburg) won't be compatible.

 

I've been reading and it seems that it is a sealed unit. Bottom has a "wiper".

Keep in mind the ZR2 has improved shocks but no hydraulic bumpstops...
