These pictures, along with the closeup pics of my ToyWerx grille, were taken after I parked in my usual spot at work today...

And don't even get me started on how cold it's gonna be at my friend's parents' place in the Poconos!

    Currently...

    image.jpg

We are leaving at 6pm-6:30pm, and should get there by about 7:30-8pm
    image.jpg

    The keyword there is should...

We will probably arrive closer to 9pm...

Tomorrow morning, roughly the time we are going to the indoor water park...

I had a 4.0 V6 5 speed ranger. Short box, reg. cab. It had 3.73s and a t-lock (LSD)...good working truck. That wouldn't be a bad swap for a driver...same platform, and lots of available parts/donor trucks around. Regardless of the chosen engine, a rear end upgrade will be needed. Any Ranger that came with a 4.0 will also have an 8.8 rear diff. Most of the 4X4s had 3.73 or 4.10 gears and many came with LSD. It should be a straight bolt in upgrade to replace the 7.5" rear end in there now.

That said...as much as I like the ford 5.0 pushrod V8 engine, it wouldn't be my first choice for a "hot rod" Ranger...too common. A 2.3 EcoBoost (like in the Mustang) might make for an interesting option. I believe Ford offers it as a stand-alone kit, but I'm not sure how much $$ that would be.

How goes it in the snow with those "all summer radials" Charlie? Winter tires for me from November to April. Softer rubber, good grip on the ice, and an aggressive tread. 4wd helps too.

Up in the Poconos at my friend's parents' house for the 29th birthday of that friend and a friend who has the same exact birthdate...

Current temperature is like one degree and it feels like -18!

Started the Tacoma to see how it would do, and it struggled a tiny bit. Discovered that the washer fluid lines are frozen. I popped the hood and discovered not only a thin layer of slush on the washer fluid, but that my coolant is kind of low and the coolant in the reservoir seems to be low!

The truck ran fine for the drive up to the Poconos and the temperature gauge was not reading abnormally.

The truck also started just fine and the temperate gauge most certainly did not rise quicker than usual. The heater is also working just fine (Isn't the heater core tied to the radiator, and uses the coolant as part of the heating process?)

Coolant doesn't appear to be frozen.

When I tapped the reservoir, the coolant didn't slosh...

Also, does the cold have anything to do with why it's so low?

It's between the lines, so technically it's within operating specs. Was that pic taken when cold or warmed up? Do you see any visible leaks?

None of the pictures suggest your coolant is frozen. I think it has to be around -30 for that stuff to freeze.
