I’m swapping twin traction beams from a Bronco in. Building my own front beam mounts and trailing arms. They are stock width but on the 4runner they are 3-4 inches wider per side than the 1st gen 4runners. It’ll be about 17” of useable travel. Current plan is to run 35s but keep options open to possibly run 37’s. The rear is getting a Ford 9” and spring under Deavers with 16” bypasses. Dual transfer cases running a Toyota range box and a FJ Cruiser transfer case to achieve the drivers side drop.

Went out and did steve's loop with a couple buddies from work, all jeeps. Truck performed like shit. Had to winch myself up one of the frozen waterfalls. As we were ascending the switchbacks I had to do a five point turn to get going straight again and that's when I realized I couldn't really turn. No power steering, apparently my rack finally took a shit. I was wondering why I couldn't position my truck right when I was on the rocks. Not to mention my tires are about bald :) I keep saying I'm going to quit wheeling my truck hard and then I just go out and beat the shit out of it again. 2018 resolution is to get the Mule on the trail ASAP!

So the short list is: rack, tires, and new driver's side shock.

I was just getting ready to look through your thread for your notes. Where did you end up buying yours from?

Rack and bushings are here. I ordered new hardware so I could just zip off the old shit but they're not supposed to be delivered until Monday. Probably got to ace and get some grade 8 shiz. But there is also a chance I'll be working on this incrementally due to the little one. Thank goodness for multiple rides. I might be rolling the mule to work all next week :D

Did you buy new OTR or are you gonna reuse your old ones?

I reused. In hindsight I probably should have just replaced since they're cheap and the current ones were old, but to be honest I wasn't entirely sure what I was doing or what everything did until I actually got in it and had everything pulled apart, and at that point it was too late. I'm now very intimate with my steering system

I almost tapped out on these things. Almost. Removing the old bushings was a major pain in the booty. After about 3 hours I have them all out with one sleeve left to buff.

What was your method? I heard air hammer and pickle fork is the way to go, but I never bothered swapping them
