Hello, I'm about to get my first Tacoma and was originally set on a TRD Off-Road. But..... Someone stated in a Facebook thread (where all information is accurate and correct, of course), that 1. Driving a TRD Off-Road Tacoma vacates the warranty and 2. It's illegal to drive the thing on highways. Obviously, I have a hard time believing either, but I did find some unclear information about certain off-road parts (which appear to be stock for the vehicle) as not being covered under warranty. Can ya'll help me out and or point me toward some sources for either issue? Thanks.

For the record, this will be my first Tacoma after having driven my dad's for years when visiting the parents, so I'm new at all this.

All BS. The TRD Off Road is all street legal and full covered by the warranty. Now, if break something because you bottomed out on a rock, then no.

Why would just driving it vacate the warranty? You make no sense.

No offense to you OP, but why would you even entertain the idea that driving an Off Road will void warranty, if that was the case, why would it even have a warranty applied to it?
All Tacoma models are street legal, otherwise, how would you test drive the Off Road model.

I feel bad for even replying to this thread because I feel like it is a joke, but oh well, its gonna be entertaining I hope.

Now to clear things up, if you abuse, mistreat, or otherwise molest your truck, then you may have trouble getting things covered under warranty. In stock form, all components will be covered, unless you are out jumping some mad hills and bust your suspension, or decide to get a cool instagram pic on a rock in the middle of a river and ingest water in the engine, or anything of that sort.
As for aftermarket parts, the part has to be the cause of the issue in order for it to not be covered. That means, putting aftermarket taillights will not void anything suspension related or even some different wheels and tires will not void your warranty, however, if you have diff problems and have a lift and bigger tires, that could make life difficult because they will blame the lift and tires on your gear related issue.
I hope this clears things up a bit.

Sounds like they meant "abuse" and breaking something while driving off road will not be covered. And 2, a dedicated Off Road Vehicle would not be street legal.

That's not a complete list. That doesn't say "Driving" as a what's not covered.

Think about it, just really thing about that statement, I'm sure you know the answer. I'm also sure that the guy that posted it smokes crack, drinks 23 hrs a day, collects welfare and is married to his first cousin. Just like his parents.

HAHAHAHA! Actually, I did misquote.... And yes, I already knew the answer, but.... Sometimes you have to ask the question just to see the responses. The correct quote was that driving the Off-Road Tacoma on highways voids the warranty, to which I replied, "You mean that I would have to trailer my Tacoma to take it somewhere off-road?" That then started the "illegal to drive on the highway" statement.

If this was a friend who told you this, you need to replace this friend. If it was a family member, you need to replace this family member. Just saying.

Well, they didn't say anything about IQ either, so I guess a lawyer could argue that it wasn't negligence if you couldn't know what you were doing.
