What would be nice if the paychecks "inflated" like that as well!! ;)

Dont get me started on that! I could go on forever about earning a decent living wage... Im a proud American but Im am broken hearted about inflation and the non inflating bank accounts of our hard workers and the low wages for those serving our country or are leo and fire depts. The worst is fast food though! burgers and sodas going through the roof, and you get bad quality food because of a hard earned living that cannot support any single person let alone a family. The whole country should go to strike on grounds of good pay for hard work please dont blame me if that happens, just thinking out loud.

I was hoping to lose the pinging, it's not as bad, but still there.

Bout the timing on swap of this part, I dont think desludge will ever stop ping however timing, afr, cam&knock sensors, fuel delivery, and spark can control ping and guess what sensor needs to work well to keep those things inline? The Mass Airflow Sensor!, and we went over this many times in this thread, and it just happened that Amazon had a great deal on these as the factory gets over 200.00 for this part when Amazon was about
Do you still have stock injectors? If so they may need a bench test and pro cleaning and rebuild. Mine needed that and 91 octane because of Ca's ethenol blended gas, it wreaks havok if you're not tuned for it.

TLDR most of this, but Im at 183k on the stock MAF and I have no troubles with an oiled AFE filter or the prior K&N and deckplate mod setup.

If I cannot figure this wiring out, I may go back to my stock MAF and clean it. I lost 5 MPG with this swap, I do not know why, but here I am...

I have not ordered mine yet. Got side tracked. Interesting when I posted about having these items in my shopping cart the cost was $48 for the Denso MAF now it's $60:confused:

I saw that happen last year with other items. You should pm Gunny he's apparently the 60 price too w/no tax unless you live in certain places.

Thanks. I have to get the air box as well. It was previously mentioned that the Dorman box isn't as nice as OEM. So I was thinking about getting one from the junk yard. I don't want to mess with pinning a new plug because mine is a 98. They changed the wiring configuration after 98.

@zbadboy I put a 4-runner airbox in mine. It fits and works with the old MAF sensor. I also had to order an OEM intake tube off of Amazon for about $80. I had a fast and furious hot air intake on my pickup when I got it so I had to source all the OEM intake to go back to that. What a pain!

Thanks for the reply xbeaus. What I want to accomplish here is to be able to buy the later model Denso MAF so I can take advantage of the $60 price. The 98 and older MAF's were remanufactured unless you want a $700 stealership one.

Holy - well, I hope mine doesn't go out! Fingers crossed. If not I think I'll have to upgrade. Maybe I should get one just to be safe. Probably be $200 in about 6 months!

This might be worth a try, URD has an extension plug for our factory plug you could definitely change the pins around on a new plug. Also try and email Gadget he may have the correct answer as to which wires go where, he might even have a unit thats an extension for a newer model than 98 that you just need to plug right in, just ask he's very friendly. I can take pics of my wires if needed but colors of em might not matter as much as getting the ones with the correct pulses and voltage, you might just be one wire off. Have you reset you're computer yet to acclimate for the new setup?, it could be that causing youre headache. Sorry for the long post I want to help you. LMK

Good stuff, I hope he has an answer for youre issue. The swap should work, btw did you reset your ecu?, it would definitely need to relearn whats going on with the newer style maf sensor.

Both battery cables were disconnected during the entire process, over an hour at least.

So I'm reading this thread, and some other threads, about the MAF sensor and it's importance...

I've had my truck a few months, the previous owner had this thing installed:

So... like... I don't even have a MAF sensor anymore? It is relocated somehow?
