Just caught this thread- have fun at the Grand Wailea! I can't wait to go back there in March, it's unlike anywhere else I've ever been. If you need food recommendations around there- hit me up.

    Hana was excellent

    Things are working out :)

We went up to Hana then continued and took the “unpaved road back”

    It was less windy
But unpaved some of the way
But it was worth it at night

from Grand Wailea to Hana did you take the northern route (360) or the southern route (37) ?
looking to do this run Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

@SoCOTaco - would love some food recommendations as well.
a buddy of mine suggested a fish taco place in Keihi - but he can't remember the name, says it's close to the Cinnabon and says can't miss it.
other than that we are wide open, may have to try a couple of the places @PROseur liked as well.

Mama's is good but very expensive. The last few times we've been there we didn't go to Mama's. You have to eat at the Humu Humu at the hotel- the restaurant that sits on top of the pond next to the pool. See if Larry is working and get in his section- he's the best. If you do, tell him the Cockell's from Colorado say hi, he'll know who we are. Another good, more casual and less pricey place is just up the street- it's called the Monkey Pod. Normally really busy, so try for a reservation. As for breakfast, there's no way you can go to that area without going to the Kihei Cafe. Best. Breakfast. Ever. Not to be missed. I try to save on lunch so I just go to one of the markets at the Shops at Wailea and grab a sandwich or something. The hotel poolside places are ok, but not cheap for how the food is. I think I missed the itinerary, have you hit the Grand Wailea yet?

I would NOT take the southern route to go to Hana

From GW I took the northern route
    It was very scenic
    We stopped for roadside coconuts
    Did some hiking

At Hana we got gas $5.55 gallon

Then we went south from there
    Roads aren’t great for minivan
    No markings on road
National park there is fantastic took me 1.5 hour south of Hana

Having national park pass saved me $$50

Seeing sunrise at hakaleah is highly recommended
    We loved it

We may go back in day time

After national park south of Hana we came back southern route to GW

Having just driven it that’s my recommendation

If you have never been to a Dukes, there’s one just past lahaina in the Honoua kai. Worth the trip for a hula pie

Do you like Japanese food? go check out Ichiban Okuzuya in Wailuku, little hole in the wall on Kaohu st. and while you at it right down the road there's a store called Kaohu Store. go grab a side of poke, best poke all day everyday, made with fresh fish not like that frozen crap you can get everywhere else. aloha
