That's exactly right. And when the truck warms up the tank will fill up a bit as things expand and the system pushes some coolant out into the tank. When it cools, it reclaims the fluid via natural vacuum.

 

Definitely no leaks. That was after I started the truck and moved it so the front end was pointing outward, but the engine wasn't totally warm yet...

The thing that concerned me was that when I tapped on the reservoir, the coolant didn't slosh around...

 

Nothing to worry about...carry on!

The coolant reservoir is pretty stout. I doubt that tapping on it will really move the contents around very much. If you want to be 100% sure just open the lid and put a CLEAN straw down into the reservoir and poke the liquid to check if it's frozen. Do NOT do this once the truck is warm.

 

OP, you mentioned washer fluid lines are frozen. Use the good stuff this time of year, not the cheap watered-down stuff, and you should be fine.

 

I use Rain-X. The guy at Valvoline topped it off with God-knows-what...

No...

I know how to change my own oil. I learned how to do it in auto shop back in 10th grade. I want to change my own oil...

I still live with my parents and my dad is worried about oil spillage in his driveway...

 

Put some hose clamps on the reservoir hose ends , it’s leaking out . I have the same issue with my coolant going missing

 

Get a tarp.

 

I wouldn't be concerned. As others have said so long as it is between the lines you are fine. It's very cold out, so fluids are condensing more than usual. Fluid expansion is very real...check to see if the coolant level is higher with the truck at operating temperature and on level ground.

FWIW my truck is at 66k and I notice that over my 5 years of ownership it has lost about 1/4 of the amount of coolant it started with in the overflow tank. Some might say this is abnormal, but from my experience it is not.

 

And I know where you live, but I live in Southeastern PA and I didn't feel like changing my oil when it was below zero!

 

Where could it be leaking from? My truck has never overheated, ever... I've had it just over eight years...
