This. I have TSS in my 18 Tundra, and most likely the sensitivity of the “coffee break” is set too high, telling you to pull over for rest.

Correct. So I would hope Toyota figured out how to make them play well together.

It'd definitely be interesting to know. Only a Toyota engineer, accompanied by a corporate patent attorney, could tell us for sure I suppose.

After owning a Subaru with The similar system (Eyesight) for 3 years, here is I what am guessing happened to you and your vehicle: Your Toyota "safety-sense" system either really saw something or it went on a false alarm. You can read the manual on the "system" but again I suspect it was "getting ready'" to apply the brakes for you (they do that) , but you probably instinctively and quickly did the braking before the car did. this is exactly the way The Subaru system works. Also Subaru has had Their safety systems since 2008 -- Also Toyota OWNS 16-18% of Subaru. Look close and you will find many of the same parts used on both brands switches/speakers etc.

Whats really interesting is that images from this camera are saved to the "black box" in the event of an accident.

My wife's prius with tss does the same crap. I imagine it would be a great safety feature if you weren't paying attention but for most it's annoying. I guess better safe than sorry.

What would really be cool is if you could somehow tap into that feed and display the camera and radar data on a monitor.

Would be awesome for slow off roading, especially at night.

That sounds like the pre-collision system. Were you driving over any road kill, or a metal object in the road? My fiance has a 17 RAV4 and it will occasionally flash "STOP" in the multi information display if we're about go to over road kill.

You guys really should read your manuals... I don't even have an 18, but I HAVE read the manual and right in there it calls out tons of situations where the system might trigger a false positive, including shadows.

I love the TSS and I am glad my tundra has it. The human reaction is slowed by many of reasons and I think it’s great we have a tool to help with that now. Get used to it people all manufactures will soon have a form of this.

For those who think it’s stupid and “I’m so glad I bought a 17 so I didn’t get that crap” well believe it or not, these type of systems save lives. So I guess that’s just stupid too eh?

One more thing -- I drove a new (loaner) 2018 Camry with the TSS -- I went perusing through on-board menus and saw that it did have an adjustment for the Front collision system -- I would bet the Tacoma has the same adjustment --maybe it was set too sensitive for your driving habits?

Mine has only done it directly behind a vehicle, I was already braking and it took over and braked harder, at 13mph it didn't need to. No issues because of it. Only time it has taken over, and I learned it doesn't work in heavy, low visibility rain. Just says sensor is dirty. Like above said, you can adjust it

My wife's RAV4 hydrid as TSS. There's a section in the manual that states that under certain unusual circumstances the PC can activate. I'm sure the Taco is no different.

I would definitely read the manual on this one

Not uncommon, my wife's '17 Acura MDX does it occasionally, it has only ever flashed brake never actually applied the brakes when there was nothing there.

I really never thought about roadkill, I was on the furthest inner lane so could’ve definitely been roadkill. I really like Subaru’s technology, good to know that Toyota owns some of it, very interesting!

No deer in SoCal, but definitely believe it may have been roadkill as @markmizzou said.
