weird, from what I've seen you're the only one with this particular issue... is that correct?

I drove all the way home in 3rd gear the other day when it was super cold and my clutch was slow. Figured I’d see what happened. It honestly worked better than I expected and wasn’t even really noticeable. Never would have tried that one the stock tune. Probably would have stalled out.

Ill bet most people have the same issue. If OV found the issue on his truck its most likely present on everyones as well. Some might have it worse then others as every engine is different which is one of the reasons I hate canned tunes. I got a few PMs from others stating that they had similar issues. Most folks dont know what it feels like, and if its subtle they may not be paying attention to it at all.

Now, I'm not going to pull a "Shmitty" and call someone names for not seeing a flaw that most others have seen with these trucks. If it works for you, that's fine brother. You'll notice though, that there are owners with ECU versions other than 04B10 that absolutely love what the tune has done for them and if asked, they would not go back to stock. Period. I could not deal with the garbage throttle response, bogging, and inconsistency of the OEM tune. Oh and crap low end lol. It cost me, sure, but getting rid of the truck would have cost a lot more. I was fed up.
It looks like we're on the verge of getting the remaining issues sorted, since Mat can do his own R&D now (he'll still need M/T testers). I for one believe this product will only get better.

Are you referring to what feels like a miss under moderate to heavy load? Quick hesitations that feel like a small fish biting your hook?
If so, I definitely had this on the stock tune, most notably while running 87 fuel. I'd drive up this same gentle hill in my way to work each day, 5th gear at say 1600-1800 RPM. You could feel the truck doing it, then it would go away as the RPM rose or the load decreased. Only way to reduce it was to run 91E0 fuel.
This latest version of the tune has these stutters (on my truck- calm down guys lol), but they seemed to get gradually worse. For ref, 1.01b didn't do it ( or not nearly as badly).

This is good to know. I'm currently waiting for the tune files from Mat, but I'd rather he just held off and delivered 1.04 with the misfiring eliminated.

In the same boat, waiting on tune files and hope to get the new file updates from this past weeks dyno day. I suspect Matt is going to do just that with any pending tune files.

haha. Personnaly Ive gone into limp mode twice with 1.03 tunes:( With that said it would be nice to have a working 1.03 tune vs the test tune we have been running.

How do you expect him to release a new MT tune when he says here "The MT and AT ecu are inherently different. There are several things unique to each, and only limited things can be ported over (for example valve timing). The MT ECU uses several different maps for controlling throttle and throttle response, torque control, etc." and also says "Everything we test we do so on a dyno, along with what we find in software and verify on a dyno." From what I've seen no further testing has been done on a dyno for a MT truck, not sure how you can release a new tune without the testing as stated but maybe that's why you're all in the position you are. Seems to be a lot of chitchat in here over nothing.

He's already brought us a long way with just one M/T dyno day and a lot of behind the scenes user testing / wizardry he does at his shop. The chitchat and excitement is not over nothing bud, ALL we got for the first number of tunes were A/T ports. 1.01b is still the most stable in my mind, although not as powerful as 1.03 (the first and only dedicated M/T tune). They are ALL improvements over stock.
Short of buying a M/T Taco, Mat will probably rely on another awesome owner to volunteer his rig for testing. Until that happens, I'll gladly take any updates Mat has to offer and try them out. Our feedback helps improve the product.
Look at the discussion @luminous started and the excellent feedback/data he provided.
    Anyway, just watch..

Yeah well... you don't know our pain lol.

Mat said he wouldn't leave us out in the cold, but one thing is true - It's a total PITA to develop a significantly different tune from all other M/T ECU versions just because Toyota REALLY dropped the ball on 04B10 - all for maybe 6 tuned trucks total.

I however, believe he will be true to his word.

We are just "reminding" him :)

With these stated “misfires” I’ve seen on this thread, im interested in OVtune customer’s (and non-customers) feedback/advice. Would you say there is a potential to damage your engine/not worth the risk for those of us on the bubble to install after reading this?
I’ve got my order placed, but am honestly skratching my head a little...
I appreciate any of your feedback. This thread has been both educational & honest and wouldn’t have placed an order without it. Thank you.
Never encountered a misfire (that I can tell) with my current oem, and usually always run 89 to 91. I live in the mountains and have added weight to my truck, so would like to use OVTune in the hopes to not have to downshift as much on the steeper grades.

Everyone is telling you the CPS issue is likely the culprit. My original CPS was testing fine too. Replaced anyway with the new unit from toyota and there was an immediate difference. How about you listen to experience here and give that a shot. I bet you'll be surprised.

I went back to the stock tune.

Because its not. I sent OV an email with the datalog off the truck he responded saying he found the issue after his dyno day and an updated tune is in the works. Throwing parts at a problem without any data saying something is broken is a waste of time and money. The truck runs perfectly fine with the stock tune, no misfires and the engine pulls just fine. All of my findings and proof of these statements was posted in this thread.

Yeah listen to people on the internet without any proof or data to back it up. That couldnt possibly go bad...

I would all but guarantee you are getting misfires but probably don’t feel them. Have you monitored your misfires on an obd2 scanner?
