Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

I have zero rubbing, but I have a 3rd gen. I think somewhere earlier in this thread someone with a second gen had rubbing?

 

Nope. No rubbing at full stuff/ lock... until I added spindle gussets and spacers that is...


I also have a lift though. Never had these tires on a stock truck

Anyone try running 255/80s on the 17” the 4Runner Pro wheels on a stock suspension Tacoma yet?

Upon further digging, this type of question has been asked. The 4Runner Pro wheel will push the tire almost an inch further out toward the wheelwell. I doubt it will fit on a stock truck without fairly significant rubbing.

 

I haven’t seen this answered but is a regear needed if running this size?

 

general consensus is NO, these tires do not weight as much or have as much rolling resistance as 285s

 

I see a lot of pros but haven’t heard any cons. Anyone having any problems or gripes so far?

 

Good to hear as I am in Vancouver and will endure the same snow/weather as you. I snowboard a lot as well and need to get up the locals. wish I knew of the 255 before i bought my KO2's in the 265 as i backed out of the 285 due to all the downsides to them that the 255 solve. Now I have 1 yr old o2's and want new ST MAXX's lol

 

I am anxiously awaiting my new Cooper Discoverer ST’s (not the Maxx’s) to come from Fedex. I went with the ST’s due to the weight difference. I was able to get them for $170 a piece with free shipping and no tax!

 

I've been running these for 6 months now and have a lot of wheeling time with them, and have zero complaints.

 

Well at least you will be if this damn snow actually starts falling at a decent rate. It still feels like a really low snowpack on the west coast of Canada, but my hopes are still high!

Subjective con to some but they don't have the wide stance like 285s and up. Another possible con is some tires weigh just as much as 285s.

 

Originally I found them on Amazon for $170 plus $30 for shipping each tire. Then after looking at the reviews for the seller I saw someone said that they got the tires directly through the sellers website for the same price but with free shipping. The stance was the only thing I was noticing about them. I thought they’d be a little lighter than the wider tires...

 

That is one of the reasons why I went with the Cooper Discoverer ST’s. I have seen them listed between 46 and 48 lbs a piece.

 

Can't really complain on st maxx in the blizzard we had 14inch of snow and didn't get stuck and drive well on pavement.

 

I love the maxx’s but they are 11lbs heavier than the ST’s according to the Cooper site and I really had to look at what I would be using them for.

 

Yea I know. E rated vs D rated. I'll just offset the weight by getting light wheels....te37
