You only need your technician lisence to run this radio, and it’s not hard to get just simple common sense question and some basic electrical/frequency spectrum understanding.

You can get a HAM radio that can receive AM CB signals but I have yet to find one that will transmit AM.

    So 2 radios.

It can be done , but it’s not cost effective or legal. Most 10m radios can be mod’ed to tx on 11m (cb) frequencies, but it’s not ideal and it’s not legal...

Looked into it a bit and decided it’s more cost effective to just do two radios . I’ve got a Yaesu 100dr for 2m/70 ham and will likely go with a Uniden cmx760 for cb now that I’m back east and most people seem to still run cb

I also keep a baofeng in the center consol so I can take a radio with me if needed or someone can use it to spot me or whatever

My radio will tx on cb frequencies but it's barely intelligible on a cb
I think the problem is that it's transmitting an FM signal rather than the AM signal that CB uses.
When you say 10m radios can be modded to tx on 11m are you just talking about unlocking the frequencies or can they actually be made to transmit an AM signal?

That’s a good question... I never looked into it enough and I’m not familiar enough with the HF frequencies...

Also part of why I decided it would be better to just run to radios

MARS frequencies is broadbanding. Can be done on almost all vhf, uhf, and hf radio's. So if you have yaesu 857D. All bands are open up.

I wouldn't worry about it. I have an antenna drilled into my roof for vhf and uhf and it the performance is incredible.

I say that but the real answer is that it depends. If you are going to put an HF antenna on the roof, grounding matters a whole lot more. But I'm assuming that you aren't going to put an HF antenna on the roof. Not many would put 10 feet of antenna on top of a 6 foot tall truck.

You only have to worry about grounding/bonding your whole truck in you are adding An HF radio and antenna. For 2m and 70cm just a good ground between antenna and truck is needed.

Just got a Kenwood tm d710ga. Planning on using my ditch light bracket mount that I used for my cb antenna. Should I have to worry about electrically grounding the mount? Also any tips/suggestions for this radio would be greatly appreciated.

@YDCtaco Was running a comet with a baofeng that did pretty well.

I put a cap on the back not to long after and it hid most of the antenna.

I bumped up to a diamond 770 nmo and it did even better, and even better when I put it on a Yaesu 100dr

I believe the 770 doesn't need a ground plane... Would have to look back into it again to confirm.

Never had any issues with tx or Rx.

Awesome thanks. I have the tonneau cover on the back so I am looking at rago fabs tailgate mount. I am not drilling an nmo mount while there are still many payments. Tried using ditch mounts with cb but non of the brackets are stainless so it rusted pretty fast. Lastly, I hear the fender is quite thin for many L brackets.

Just check your tailgate to bed clearance- my bamf is pretty tight. I like the rago one but haven’t been able to find it for the passenger side

    Question for you guys,

We hooked up a radio to a side by side and we’re having issues.

The radio works fine both ways when the machine is off but the second we turn the key we can no longer hear anything coming in, but we can be heard.

Any ideas on what the issue could be?

    Does it have LED lights?
    Sounds like RF interference.
