    How often does a Detroit product fail? That’s why I got mine. Its awesome. It’s in my daily, not a trail rig. It’s transparent on the road most of the time, no clutches to wear or replace, silent, strong.
    If you’re building a trail rig, go with lockers.

    Bilstein 5100's front and back. OME 880 front coils. General HD rear springs. Fuel 16x8 Enduro rims. Dick Cepek Extreme Country 285/75/16's Some kind of headers. K&N cold air intake.
    Not a strictly a trail rig. This is and will be my daily driver. With that said I also will be using it as a recovery vehicle of sorts. The property I work on gets extremely wet and muddy and often times I am called to go out and pull our John Deere Gators out of heavy mud. I am going to fit it with front and rear winches in time so I wont always have to go into the deepest of the muck but getting to where they are stuck will require a good bit of traction. So far everything I am reading tells me this is the way for me to go. Just wanted to hear what guys who have been running it for a while think of this set up.

    Detroit TrueTrac both diffs, re-gear 4:30, Wheeler's 8 leaf, OME 881, JBA UCAs, Bilstein 5100 all 4 corners, All new u-joints & ball joints, new LCA bushings
    I want to re-gear from 3:91 to 4:56 for my 31x10.5x15 tires, also want to add limited-slip. I don't know if I need to re-gear and add truetrac, or can I get the Eaton Truetrac LSD in the gear ratio I want?

    Gears and TrueTrac are independent. But doing them at the same time makes the Truetrac install basically free as it is no more labor.

    As an aside, 4.56 on 31" tires seems like pretty deep gearing.

    81,000 miles on my truck now and the Detroit truetrac has been and still is incredible. Strongly recommended!!

    Gear changes are always recommended to increment at least 2 sizes, as it usually is not considered worth it for 1. The gear size increase should match the tire size increase. What size did you use to have before putting 31s on that you are trying to account for? And when you say 31, is it 31x10.5?

    The original tires were P225/75R/15, I replaced those with 31x10.5x15

    If I remember correctly i paid about $100 to have mine installed which was a good price at the time. I provide the necessary oil ect. My truck was very low miles at the time but if it wasn’t I would’ve had them go through and freshen up all the bearings/seals ect... since the axles are already out might as well do it.

    Wow, that's really worth it.
    I asked the local transmission repair, and they said $1000 + side bearings, fluids, and taxes on front and rear, so I imagine 1/2 for rear only.
    Bought my truck used with 190k km on it, so not sure it's worth it, but I also know how long they'll last. Just gotta convince the wife. If I could get it done at your price, I'd jump on it.

All Pro skids, rear bumper and sliders, Hidden winch mount with XRC 8000 winch. Dual Optima batteries with IBS combiner/isolator and solar. CMC. Auto sliding rear window mod, hidden CB, CVJ axles and plenty of other little mods.
    Don't have one now, but had TT's front and rear in my Land Rover for about 10 years. Never a problem, awesome performance. I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

    I have a 1st Gen, but I THINK it still wouldn't matter when it comes to gearing? :notsure:

    Anyways, I've been wanting to do the Detroit TrueTrac LSD as well and was also thinking about re-gearing going from the same setup on 4:10's.     I was researching LSD options for the front diff and contacted ECGS. They responded that a True Trac does not exist for the Toyota 8" front IFS differential, only the rear (PN: 913A541 for non rear e-locker).

    What other options are out there for the front diff besides going with ARB Air Lockers? Anybody have any experience with Aussie Lokkas?

    Hey all
    Sorry for my differing opinion but,
    I installed a Eaton tru track on my previous 04 hemi ram and it was ok but in my current taco I would much preferr a selectable locker.
    The tru trac can be dangerous on snowy/ icy roads in my ram their were times I’d be going straight down a snowy road a 60mph and the tru trac would engage and launch rear off the road( not trac straight) you don’t need to be locked at highway speeds jmo .
    Also if Irc their is a tire size limit on warranty 33” iirc .

    It would be a lot more to do front and rear. Mine was just the rear and it’s pretty simple. Remove axles and 3rd member. Swap over ring gear and set it up. Not a big deal if you know how to do it.

    That doesn’t seem like the characteristics of a true trac. I’ve ever once felt mine engage or disengage, lock or unlock. I also drive in winter snow/ice several months out of the year. In fact the truetrac has drastically improved poor road condition driving for me. In my experience the DTT has been completely invisible except i always have great traction.

    I'm not buying it either. Engage???? As the OP said, that's not how they work. They're LSD's, not lockers
    On the other hand, I have to agree that a locker may be better (at least off road) for a Taco. The weakness of a TT is that you have to have your wheels on the ground. Our trucks have VERY limited suspension travel - especially in the front.

    Ok ok
    Poor choice of words. I didn’t feel it engage . From MY experience the tru trac would function perfectly as designed,if there was any and I mean ANY loss of traction it will seamlessly send traction were needed and that often in my experience was both wheels like a fully locked diff . Now I said engage because when you’re going 60mph straight down the road often up a incline just barely accelerating and the rear end washes out because there was a slight slip and now it’s “locked “ ( both rotating with Tourqe) and without that 1wheel just tracking and 1 rotating with tourqe a light in the rear pickup it tends to go into a less than desired direction. Now I was always able to recover it I’m just saying it’s something to be mindful of. Again there is no need to be “ locked” at anything over 20mph in my opinion. Other than that the tru trac is awesome and easy to install and a great option . I would just rather be able to have full control over traction as needed.
