The radio worked fine when the engine wasn’t running but the second we turned the key we couldn’t hear anything but could be heard fine.

Thread the nut back on the end of that bolt (so you don't bash the threads on the end), and then hit the nut/thread end with a hammer to punch it out. You may have to hit harder than you think you should. There are ribs on the head side of that bolt that hold it in place, and they are tight.

Definitely ground/RFI issue, sounds like. I struggled with that for a while too; same symptoms, different solution: Mod Wars - USB charger blocking Ham Radio Communication

    Glad you got it sorted!

Hahaha, both pretty fast. :fistbump: I just happened to do mine 2 days ago (see Updating the Alcan Leaf Pack), so had it on the tip of my tongue.

So, my daughter is super cramped in my extended cab, so much so that the wife is ready to buy another car. I really want to make this taco work tho, what are my options for a five year old? Is there a seat for the front passenger??

Should have just done a 5-speed manual transmission swap.

I told myself if I wanted a stick shift I'd buy an E30 or a Miata - something relatively fast. I was considering it though, wouldn't like commuting in California traffic with a manual Tacoma - but that's just me.

Having owned a 1989 325is with some mods I look back and think that car needed about 100 plus more HP via an S54 swap. It was a great car for the many years I had it, but power wise very underwhelming

None. I probably have the only first gen Tacoma in the world that tells you 4HI or 4LO the instrument Cluster. Usually those spots would say ABS and RR DIFF LOCK respectively but I don't have those, so I custom made the graphic in Photoshop CS6 and printed it on plastic transparency. It's several layers of plastic glued together.

I utilized the transfer case position switches in the transfer case. Usually on a stock Tacoma they would go to the 4WD computer but I omitted that completely in my swap.

The transfer case detection switches complete a ground when activated, so that's basically how I wired it to the Cluster.

My next vehicle will not have a manual, after the Tacoma I'm done with manuals. I'm turning in my man card for an old man card.

I've always liked being integrated as much as possible into my vehicles especially when it comes to transmissions. Regardless of vehicle type.
