This is what I ordered and bilstein says this is correct for a 2017 Trd off road tacoma

 

I know if I had a day I could commit I could figure it out eventually. Not a master mechanic so I know it would take me awhile but now I’m thinking something is f’ed up!

 

Notice the seat here is the correct eay for installation.

Notice in this pic the black spring seat had the edge which supports the bottom of the spring facing up.

 

Well that would make up the difference. The post above that stealth mode posted is incorrect?

 

My bad thought they were 2 different posts. They claimed they installed it that way on your first pic. This is the stock shock on my truck now.

 

Here are the installation instructions for your shocks. It sounds like you have the spring seat upside down.

Correct they should fit from the top like a hat. Not like an upside down umbrella.

 

Thanks! Is it typical for the seat to be installed the other the other way( wrong way for 5100’s) on a regular shock? They are willing to give my money back for breakdown if this is the right shock bilstein sent. Thanks for all the posts. Just trying to point the finger in the right direction!

 

No. You would be adding more than 4 inches of lift which the stock control arms cannot take.
