I’m with ya, but fact is that even though it sounds like drunk crickets, the HPFP on my truck hasnt failed in 22k miles over the last year. Until they fail I doubt Toyota will do anything about them... poor move but i just don’t see them doing anything until it becomes a safety or reliability concern

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
So nobody has any input on how hot their HPFPs are after driving? Beuler? Beuler?

If you don't know where it is located or what it looks like, I'll post up some pictures of it.

That is interesting.....any more detail on this you could share?

EDIT-1/8/18-There is/was no recall on this. Six years? No idea where that came from either. There is a TSB, which advised if the HPFP was squeaking/chirping after 10 minutes of running time for the technician, the HPFP would be replaced. It was replaced by the same part number, so this seems to be no solution to the issue whatsoever.

Editing Feb 22 '18--Zonks12 never came back in with any supporting data on his claim. I'm calling BS on his Scion FRS recall comment until he shows documentation, and then I'll "like" his post. Until then though........

    My '17 just developed a squeak/chirp at 19k miles.
I normally fill up at the same gas station, 91 octane every time.

Most recently I filled up with my typical choice, but their winter blend includes ethanol. Since my most recent fill up my truck is chirping like crazy. And under acceleration the truck squeals obnoxiously through 3500rpm, after which the intake drowns out all other noise. What I've noticed is the truck will only chirp/squeal after the truck is warm. From a cold start everything is fine, and for most of my commutes it makes no abnormal noises until roughly 10 minutes in.

With the hood up and trying to pinpoint the noise, it looks like the sound is coming from the high pressure fuel pump. The chirping sounds very similar to what everyone else is experiencing, however the squealing I'm experiencing is significantly more obnoxious than the chirping I'm getting after the truck is warmed up. It sounds like bad belts on a 1990 Chrysler. Is anyone else having this same sound or am I dealing with a bad pulley/belt?

Sounds like you are describing the HPFP noise with the Cricket Chirping sound. Not sure what the squealing is unless that is somehow a weather related issue or an actual problem in the belt drive, a trip to the Dealer is probably worthwhile.

dealer just said normal by comparison. My '17 F150 with the 2.7 did it but worse. In the end auto makers just really don't care about the product they are pushing.

After some self diagnosing, I believe the two sounds I'm hearing are unrelated. My HPFP is absolutely chirping and I'm going to have it documented with the dealer, the squeal I'm hearing is from the pulley system. A quick spritz of water on the belt silenced the squeal entirely. But I'll have the dealership address the cause of that under warranty.

I have 25,000 miles on my 2016 and the high pressure fuel pump has started to chirp. It is quite loud, and I can hear it from the cab. My Dealer said that it is normal and all of them do it. I tried to push him but it doesn't seem that they are doing anything about it currently.

Unfortunately my dealer has a monopoly on Toyota here. What did they do to your truck? Did they fix it?

Similar experience here. Replaced high pressure fuel pump at just over 5,000 miles, now at just over 20,000. Chirp has not returned. Only difference is they put on my service receipt that I should try different gas so I switched from Costco to Arco...

Just noticed mine chirping at 12k miles...always filled up at same gas station on base. I'll try another place on my next fill up to see if it makes any difference. Fun stuff.

If it's heat related you guys should throw on a couple of heat sinks. Those so a back up job of dissipating heat.

Addicore Raspberry Pi Heatsink Set for B B+ 2 and 3 set of three for $3.

You could get fancier ones too that are probably way more effective that those.

There's the big "if" for you. If it's heat related....... Well, nobody seems to know this information, and I haven't found any other posts documenting what the expected operating temperature range is on this unit (HPFP) other than my IR read of 149.5 degrees F. I measured a 152.6 degrees F off of a buddy's '16 Tacoma, and @shakerhood sent me a 92 deg F reading after driving his Tacoma but it was 35 deg F ambient then. @Tharris242 sent me a 140 deg F reading on his, @jsey21 sent me 131-140 deg F as well as a 100-115 deg F at about 60 F ambient. It seems to me that @over60 sent me info as well but I can't find it.

So we don't know what we should be expecting temperature-wise on our HPFPs, Toyota doesn't seem to recognize this as an issue but if someone who knows the true expected operating temperature on these pumps and could post in some documentation, it could be helpful. At this point I'm approaching 7K miles and not hearing any chirps, and all my personal temp tests after a decent distance/running time show 150 deg F.

This HPFP technology is not unique to our Tacomas, it's been used in Scion, and in Lexus, but I don't lurk on their forums so don't have input on what message traffic is going on over there.
