I just picked up my first Tacoma yesterday and I’m wondering what my first upgrades should be. Looking to do some general off reading occasionally but primarily will use this truck as my daily driver. Cost is an issue as I’m just recovering from buying the truck.

    It’s a 2012 TRD Sport Double cab.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You don't mention mileage or service records. Tell us about those. Tires, brakes, lubricants, etc. There may be some baselining work that needs doing.

Learn how all the systems work (digital wizardry and mechanical), get comfortable using them.

Set your tire pressures via a chalk test.

A good set of floor mats if you don't have them already.

Clean the paint and wax everything with a durable product, including your door jambs.

You don't say where you live in your profile. If it's salt country, or the truck has been there, frame inspection and rust preventative (like Fluid Film) is a must.

After that, just drive it, and modify things as you learn what would make the truck a better experience for you.

    Welcome to TW!

I agree with @Clearwater Bill that some basic maintenance might be in order first. But here's a vid offering a few useful things that your Tacoma probably needs:

I'm in Ontario Canada, plenty of road salt every winter. It's got 200,000k on it. That's about 125,000miles.

It received regular maintenance. Oil and fluid changes regularly. It runs and looks great so far.

It has new tires and brakes, rotors, calipers, pads.

Thanks so much for all of the feedback.

Welcome. I would fluid flim the frame as a first mod. Cheap and benefits the truck. Not cool or flashy, but increase the life of your truck.

Wow that's some km for a 6 year old truck. @34,000km a year. Remember just because it looks good doesn't mean you can see what's going on inside the components. You should change those oils and inspect your brake lines. You live in a major salt area seeing as Ontario is frozen 9 months of the year id check from the ground up and wash all the salt off and start with about 4-5 cans of fluid film and soak everything. Taco+salt=rust

Fluid film, good to know. I'll be picking some up.

This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

    Thanks everyone.
