I have a 2017 trd sport DCSB 2wd auto. I average 18 mpg mostly driving city miles. Huge improvement from my gen 2. I recently did some freeway miles and got over 350 a tank. Never been done for me.

How the hell you are all seeing these crazy mpg's is beyond me. According to Fuelly.com which I used from day 1 and currently tracked 14k miles I am at 15.6 mpg's with my last tank at 11.6 mpg's. I use 93 octane 95% of the time to get the maximum rated hp out of the motor. I am running 32" LT AT tires with a 2" lift and a softtopper. I drive with ECT on 75% of the time. I drive 75% city and rest highway. I drive about 70mph. The last month its been very cold here on the NE, for example today its 7 degrees! That will impact mpg's for sure. I drive mixed terrain with hills, stop and go, curves, 4x4 due to weather, and various hard acceleration to pass on highway. I guess its a lifted truck so the mpg's are shit. On another note my fathers 2017 Sport LB DC 4x4 is slightly better at 18 mpg's.

I'd bet your wheels have a lot to do with it. Which LT tires do you have on it

I live in similar condition in NY, I drive pretty much the same truck minus the lift and wheels, and I get 16.5 mpg if im lucky.. I think it has alot to do with the truck not liking to stay in 6th gear. I have had all the TSB updates, and still I get bad mileage.

I'm running Toyo Open Country AT 2 tires in LT 265/75/16. Good tire for the sloppy winter conditions while looking pretty aggressive and handling off road trips couple times a year.

I’ve had mine since the Saturday after thanksgiving, and after 1400 miles, we’ve been average around 17 combined. Pretty sure it’s the winter gas. I’ve seen 22 on an all highway tank.

My Tacoma is horrible, upstate Ny in the mountains I can't break 16 mpg on the highway between 70-75 mph. It shifts between 4-5th constantly and even shifts to 3rd on some hills, absolutely screaming. I miss my 2013 I got the 2018 thinking I would get better fuel economy and a lot of options. Well I got options, less fuel economy and less power imho! Thanks for letting me rant!!!!

I agree, overall mileage is better than the 2nd Gen. Same amount of city driving once I’m out of the canyons to get to various work locations. Averaging 19 mpg in that regard. The 4.0 would average 16 at best.

One note, having read about members here getting better mileage using ECT, I finally experienced it. All the Taco needs is a slight push of the gas pedal and it’s flowing with stop light traffic at a very good pace and with ease(not much fuel being used). It launches/drives the truck slightly better than when in D. What I have a hard time getting used to is how quick it gets you onto someone’s rear bumper. But, I dig that feature about ECT and I’d be bullshitting if I said I didn’t. Smooth gear changes. It’s trick.

HOWEVER, once you start playing grand tourismo, then you’ll obviously start seeing 15mpg’s. In D, I dig it just as much. Taco at 2700 miles and digging the 3.5

    2 1/2 tears later I still get 21 to 21.3 mpg City/Hwy combo.
Recently did a 600 mile trip, majority was Hwy, got 23 mpg.
As long as I don't drive it like I stole it, this mpg is easy to do.

Doing better now? Or still the same? I have a 2018 TRD OR DCLB. I'm getting 17-18, but haven't done a lot of highway driving.

I have a 2018 TRD off-road with a 3 inch lift and 285/75/16 tires I get 18.4 give or take a few tenths. I live at 5500ft. In order to get that I have to baby the shit out It. I just think that’s the way the Atkinson cycle engine works. If you get into the throttle it switches to Otto cycle and starts using fuel.

I just did a 600 mile trip to Connecticut and averaged 17-18 cruise set at 75. I am currently looking into a f150. More room, power and fuel economy! My father in law has a 2.7 eco, smokes my truck in all aspects.
