Engine replacement. She finally bit the dust.

How much of a pain would it be to swap a 2.7 to a 3.4. Motor mounts, wiring harness, transmission etc, etc. What kind of headache would I be looking at? Let's say I want to stick with the 3rz, where's the best place to shop?

 

Issues: Four piston rings shot, one bent rod, crank shaft fubar'd, all bearings shredded as well. I'll give her credit though, my wife ran it for atleast half a mile decelerating from 60mph with no oil at all. No telling how long she ran it that day before the end. Got it back to the house, put some more oil in it, and it still crunk. Although it didn't sound too pretty, she never seized up. I miss the green machine. Buy rebuilt, or rebuild? I've got respect for MY motor, I think I'll have detachment issues. We've been through a lot together.

 

Rebuild! Its a fun project and should be easy on the 2.7.

 

How would I go about finding an aluminum block for the green machine?

would be your best bet. you can just buy a hooked up motor. and do the rebuild as a project.

 

Yeah, just rebuild. Oh, and give your wife a donkey to ride.

 

What are the emission laws? It could be illegal to put in a bigger engine for street use.

 

Sounds like with all the internal damage a used/rebuilt swap would be better than rebuilding your motor.

 

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm gonna go with the prez on this one. Engine swap and rebuild the other as a side project.
