    @Kolunatic
    Curious if this is true this comes from the Garage Forum guy asked about running pipe for his compressor .. first mistake was mentioning pvc or copper lol but someone mentioned pex and another put this up

    " My opinion is that I wouldn't have a problem using pex if I could run the pex inside the wall cavity, and then stub out with copper or black iron. This would be to protect the pex from light which degrades it over time, as well as physical protection, but mostly because it looks terrible and is nearly imposible to run straight and nice and neat".

    Specifically the statement that pex can be degraded by light I presume he means sunlight. I am aware it is damaged by UV but in a shop environment ie just sunlight from windows Is enough to damage it ?

    I'll chime it what little I know....short answer: yes.
    We've been installing pex a lot at work. We roll it out then shield it with a black corruated drain type pipe 1) so the black pipe warms it up better so we can get it to lay flat and 2) just to keep it from soaking up the rays, even though it's only out for 1/2 day or so. The exposed pex we have is in dark alleyways in the maintenance chases where there is little to no traffic and only artificial light. When we bury it, the shielding stays on for more protection against rocks.
