I think they have to cut it to keep the pumps from gelling up... I haven't bought diesel from the pump in a while, we have a tank that we get a drop shipment when we run low, in the winter we'll cut it with some kerosene

switching the propane would work out if your boiler is up for replacement. but if you still have a lot of life left on it then it makes more sense to stick to the oil burner. out by us propane is a good amount cheaper but it'll take few years to offset the $5k or so to switch over

Oil heat is all I have ever had, I don't mind it.

Whenever I've looked here, the price is similar.

I remember looking at a house that was almost brand new and had radiant propane heat. The realtor said their propane was "only" costing them $2500/year. Seemed insane to me--something had to be wrong there given I'll be under $1200 to heat a house from the 50s with the same square footage and oil this year.

I like oil cause if you run into a situation where you run out, just pop over and pick up 10 gallons of diesel. Also if you have a leak its a tad more noticeable and easier to find then propane/gas.

But the Engineer in me likes natural gas/propane cause its cheaper and cleaner burning.. also city natural gas will always be there.. everything has its pluses and minuses

yeah that is odd... I think here propane is 25% less I want to say. Radiant heat is awesome though like I would always add it if i could. especially in garages. It does take a bit more to heat up though, and if they let the slab get to cold then it will really cycle that boiler. Radiant floors like to stay at a constant temp. Or they just undersized the boiler and its always running..

No worries; I spent a good part of the day on the tractor anyway, stacking snowbanks up and back. Wanted to get them up and out of the way before they get rained on later this week, because once it gets cold again they're going to be there for the duration.

I've been following the release of this for a while. They first started talking about this last summer and I've been eagerly awaiting the release (it's just in time for me to start looking for my next truck). This bit is disappointing though "Retail customers will be able to order the engine on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels on SuperCrew cabs with 5.5- or 6.5-foot beds or on Lariat SuperCabs with a 6.5- or 8.0-foot bed."

That would take me out of the running, that'd put me at a $60k truck by the time you get a Lariat, tow package and a $4k adder for the oil burner. I also can't believe they're going to keep start-stop on a diesel. That sounds just plain stupid. I was really surprised to see that.

Start stop... Imagine pulling a max loaded trailer east out of PA on I84. Climbing the 2 mile hill that's at least 8% grade and then taking the exit at the top of the hill. Come to the stop sign and the red hot turbo looses oil pressure from the automatic stop... And this is coming from a Diesel fan too.

so I would be in the same boat as you. only work around is to order it through the commercial or fleet service. I am able to go through that but makes finding the perfect truck little more difficult and might have to sacrifice an option or two. Depending how low I could get the fleet price might make it worth it in the end though. Might be able to ask around at the dealers to see if they have a fleet sales rep and could hook you up. I know some people were able to do that with their Tacomas actually

The start/stop on a diesel is pretty stupid and really hope they have an easy off switch for that. $4k for the upgrade though isn't to bad considering in the super duty its just about $9k

If you're towing, none of the models will turn off the engine. That's what some people are using as a work around, they're plugging in one of those 4 pin trailer wiring testers and leaving it in. If the truck thinks there's a trailer attached, it deactivates start/stop. But in general, it's a stupid idea on any turbo charged vehicle in my opinion.
There's a button on the dash that you can push to disable it but you have to press it every time you get in the truck. I've seen some youtube videos where they show you how to jumper out that switch, effectively permanently disabling the 'feature'. I'm sure there is a way to program it out if you have the right equipment.

Agreed, especially considering you're now over the price of an XLT Superduty with 6.7 diesel at that price. Fuel economy won't be as good but you'd have a much more capable truck.

They are gonna have to change up the F250 lineup to make that truck sell. I mean at that money you are in 1 ton territory for sure.

My 2.7EB has the stop/start and when you've got a trailer plugged in it's disabled. I'm sure that would carry over to the diesel as well.

I don't think they'll change a thing. The half tons are becoming a commodity item and the people buying them aren't even considering the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. They're using them as a commuter basically and the drop in fuel economy alone when you jump to a HD truck will deter most. There is a push by the EPA to make the HD trucks more fuel efficient by I think 2025 and I'm really curious to see what that does to the truck market.

as long as its an easy to get to button then I'm ok with that. Parents Jeep Grand Cherokee and Benz E350 have it and you just need to remember to hit the button every time you get in it. Its not a friendly feature when you are trying to pull away from a stop sign or light quickly that's for sure

that's good to know, def make sense they would put that on every engine when your towing
