Looks like you got a nice setup.

There won't be much traditional/classic fly "casting" on streams of that size. You'll rarely get/need enough line out to properly load the rod.

My two TFO Pro II's (9' 5wt & 9' 6wt) are my go to rods here! Amazing performance/value for the cost.

I took a casting lesson a couple of years ago to learn/improve on some casts like the reach & Belgian casts. I was told to bring my favorite rod. I brought the TFO Pro II 9' 5wt. The instructor commented on how nice it cast.

yep, Im liking this warm weather we are having here. It means the lakes will thaw quicker and fishing will be on track about mid March unless we get a ton of snow blocking the roads.

To be honest- I’m having buyers remorse. It’s really too long for my intended use. He said I could return it as long as I don’t use it. Plus, it’s a lot more than I wanted to spend. Maybe I should have went with my gut rather than listen to my fly fishing buddy who talked me into this. They had several kits I was looking at before the detour. A Redington, Orvis & a TFO- all 4 wt & 7 ft rods. The TFO was the most expensive at $225 inc a loaded reel. Had the wife with me yesterday, she always gets me in trouble overspending- saying I should buy the best. The friend being her friend all the way back to high school didn’t help when he’s telling her Sage or nothing. I’ll probably return it today & take a deep breath before doing anything else.

Which is small streams like I posted. We are talking catching trout that would fit in the palm of your hand- C&R. Not like I’m going to be loading the rod & casting for distance ;) Don’t get me wrong- it’s a nice set-up. But is it right for me? I have plenty of expensive guns that are safe queens. Don’t need a fly rod catching nothing but cobwebs. Wife stays home next time.

I revert back to my original suggestion.

If you don't want the 3 wt - you can do the 8' 4 Wt.

Seriously. Everyone needs a 9ft 5wt. You plan to start on smaller streams though. Get a cabelas cgr 2 or 3 wt with a orvis battenkill I reel it's my preferred setup on the smaller streams around where I like to go. Smaller Browns and Brookies that don't get larger than my hand is long. I can travel with it and not worry about it breaking because both have a great warranty. I keep thinking I need something like that sage setup though too

The same shit everyone else has.
    This ^

A 9F5W is the best all around go to rod to have.

Buy a cheapy short 3 or 4w rod for small fish/small water.

Check out the 6'6" Eagleclaw Featherlights, they're like 35$ and fun to fish if you wanna go super cheap.
