Wow, you guys have gotten quite a bit more rain than we have this year. I hope our southern LPNF gets a good soaking tomorrow and Tuesday.

Thanks! The compressor (an ARB dual) is mounted in place of the larger cubby on the driver's side and there is a 20gal water tank toward the front of the bed under the sleeping platform with a quick-disconnect directly beneath the air compressor quick-disconnect. It's been a fun project.

As for extending the bed length, for my wife and I, it's unnecessary. The truck is a long-bed and I'm 5'3, wife is 4'10, so plenty of room for the two of us. So yeah, we're both hobbits.

Sliders are RCI and the front bumper is from Southern Style Offroad.

We must have passed y'all. We were there over the same weekend and saw the same campsites as we were passing through. Even saw someone was kind enough to leave behind all of that firewood.

We try to leave campsites better than we found them. And if we process wood it only takes a few more minutes to cut enough for the next campers. Maybe it will help someone less prepared.

Here's a tip, always carry a chainsaw and a benzomatic for fires. I can and have started fires the bushcraft ways for years...its cool, but this will always start a fire fast. Buddy Heater isn't a bad idea either20171230_163804.jpg

Same here, we made sure to leave them cleaner than we found them. We used the ole lint trick for fires but we also carry a torch with us.

I always carried my sthil saw until I got my 2017- now a 20' heavy duty extension cord and a HF electric chainsaw plugged into the truck work just as well for camp firewood, but I still carry the .036 for first time out trips after winter storms. Nice looking setup!

The water tank is a great idea- can you share more info about it and how you set it up? Thanks!

I was just looking at Pfeiffer's website and I swear it said it was closed. Got any info on that?

The Park is open but accessible from the north only - New update from the Park website 1/5/18: Highway 1 is open at Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge, allowing vehicle access from the north to Julia Pfeiffer Burns and Limekiln State Parks. Garrapata, Point Sur Light Station, Andrew Molera and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Parks continue to be open and accessible from the north on Highway 1. Highway 1 is closed at Gorda until late summer 2018 due to a massive landslide. From the south, access is closed on Highway 1 at Salmon Creek. Check traffic conditions before driving at the Caltrans website.

No, you are right- it is closed (also stated on the first list) - the Park is open though.

A road flare works the best. You can start a fire after a rain with wet wood. And yes the gas torch works good also. (Unless you are trying to light wet wood then a road flare is the best)

    I bought this guy...
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MSK5RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
...and added a pump and all the plumbing. Sorry, I'm not too good at creating these step-by-step things. I pretty much learned how to do it as I was doing it.
Anyway, if you lay it flat, the height is still lower than the wheel wells and allows for the sleeping platform to cover it. I placed it in a watertight box with a small drain leading out the stock bed drain hole just in case there are any leaks.

Julia Pfeiffer campground seems to be closed. Pfeiffer Big Sur SP campground isn't though... https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=570

Guess I'm old school lol. I use my small axe and shave off thin shavings of wood from the logs and pile some of those up to start the fire. Get a smaller piece of wood and then make small shavings on it but leave them attached. A-frame and some smaller pieces across the top gets things going pretty well.

I also carry vaseline-soaked cotton balls as they will light in any weather conditions pretty much and burn for quite a long time.

I'm probably going to have to hand over my man-card for this question, but can the torch fitting (burner) also attach to the smaller standard propane bottles?
