You're using rattling trim pieces as evidence of a vehicle falling apart. Meanwhile the Tacomas have engine/transmission and differential problems from day 1. You look at the older gen 2s and they needed new frames. I don't know how you ignore the most important parts of the vehicles falling apart and care more about the rattling trim pieces for the Colorados.

I agree. I went as far back as possible for the comparison of the current gens. To go beyond that is purely speculation.

Because a go-pro mount increases offraod capability? Of all the things.

    And a terrain button.

    Yay.

Because again, my 2005 Tacoma with 119k miles that according to you should have had a completely disintegrating frame recently sold for $19k. So what is there to ignore?? Tell me again why you can't do that with a Colorado?? Oh right, because its a POS and everyone knows it.

"but the news ones are so much different! I don't know why and I have zero evidence they'll be any different in the long run but just TRUST ME!"

If they were different they wouldn't be depreciating just like the old ones....

Hear a lot about how reliable the GM twins are. I've looked at the Colorado forums before and they also have a lot of problems...

My bad. 1st gens were toyotas call, (I had one bought back and one frame was replaced.) 2nd get was due to a class action suit. Either is better than what any other company will do, which is tell you to buy a new one or pound sand.

I already acknowledged that the early Colorados were crappy. They are also completely different trucks than the current Colorados. I am not comparing the older trucks. That makes 0 sense and despite what you think, I have 0 loyalty to those trucks or any trucks for that matter.

And it only makes sense that a 12 year old truck with a brand new frame would have a higher value than a 12 year old truck with a older frame. New parts = better value.

Yes, I have 0 evidence that the current Colorados will be valuable 12 years from now. And you also have 0 evidence that the current Tacomas will retain their value like the older Tacomas did. I am not comparing what I can't prove. I am comparing what IS provable with information currently available. You are clearly the one trying to make a case for something without supporting evidence.

The other company has not had frames rust out lol. You can look out everyday and see GMs from the 70s still on the roads with their original frames.

Maybe where you live. Up here they all rust. There's nothing on the road here from the 70s unless it's a full frame up resto.

Your right, something is different for Toyota to be putting this out.

There are a lot of old Toyotas on the road, too. Trucks used to be made with thicker steel and some have in fact lasted. But of the many thousands of C/K trucks made only a very few percentage are still around. I think the comparison is the S10 vs. 80s and 90s Toyotas and then later Silverados or F150 and Tacomas. I don't see many ~2000 domestic trucks either, so I think all manufacturers have cut steel and paint as much as possible. But you don't hear much about anyone except Toyota doing frame replacements. I think to some extent it's something their competitors like to quietly point out just to take the attention away from their own corrosion.

None of my tacomas had new frames. My 1st gen sold for $12,500 with 167k miles and original frame. My 2nd gen sold for $19k with 119k miles and original frame.

I've been in the Toyota game for a long time so I just remember when people were saying the exact same things you are but back in 2006, even consumer reports back then didn't fawn over the Tacoma. The Colorado, frontier and ranger were considered "almost as good" and people derided Tacoma owners for paying more $ than necessary just for a "badge"..... There were also a lot of common problems we have right now, "Tacoma surge" complaints about paint quality, even leaky rear diffs! Although back then it was the leaky timing covers that got more attention online.

So to me its just history repeating itself. My roommate had your same logic when bought his 2005 Colorado used because it was about $6k cheaper than the Tacoma I had just bought, and the reviews online at the time even supported the Colorado as a smart used choice lol. Well I drove mine for years and sold it for the same exact amount I paid. He put about $4k worth of work into his and lost another $10k in depreciation.

Maybe I'm wrong this time who knows, but from everything I've seen so far from sending used colorados and 3rd gens through recon, auction values, and personal experience.... its going the EXACT same way as last time. So I'm pretty confident in 5 years you'll see what I'm talking about :)

Do yourself a favor and ignore this guy/girl. I bet they will be banned within a few weeks/months. You're attempting to argue like a lawyer, but you're just not real good at it. I hope that you're just young and inexperienced.

Your assumption is that all trucks have the same frame problems and that only Toyota dealt with their problems. Toyota only "dealt" with the frame problems because a class action lawsuit forced them to. No other companies had class action lawsuits due to frame problems. Nearly all auto companies have lifetime warranties on their frames. The only logical assumption to me is that no other companies are having major issues with their frames like Tacomas had.

dlakerguy in case you haven't figured it out yet you can't argue facts with Toyota Fanboys. You will never win this argument here.

If your definition of good resale is based on selling after two years you’re doing it wrong.

Down the road a bit, 7-8 years plus, over 100k on the clock, warranty gone.....now let’s talk.

This is where Tacomas kick the crap out of all the others in resale.
