I heard that about ICON, that their customer service is really bad. It's a sting and more money out of your pocket, but I've gone with KING on 2 builds and can't say enough good things about them. Both their product line and their customer service are exceptional.
The reps at KING spend as much time as I needed to talk things over, and asked a lot of questions about my truck and the kind of driving I was planning. They told me everything I needed to go and made some really helpful recommendations regarding valving.
Sorry you got burned by ICON, ditch them go with KING.

 

I have no recollection of my visit to Hooters. Sadly, I do remember realizing the company does not ONLY employ large breasted, attractive women. This was in a sketchy part of downtown Phoenix. Do not recommend.

 

The chicks were ugly in Fresno.

I don't enjoy hooters anymore. Twin peaks is where it's at if I want to go to a sports bar with scantily clad women.

 

i read the first three pages... where's the part where class action gets mentioned?

 

Rear shock wasn't leaking Friday...took a little trip out to JTree this weekend and did some mild trails. Quick once over after I got home revealed leaking rear resi...these shocks only have about 2000 hwy miles and 75 miles off-road. Any one know what the next steps are to fix this issue? Thx.

FWIW, you probably don't ned a full "rebuild" since there probably isn't any wear on the internals. But you'll need oil and nitrogen charge. And of course notching the bucket.

 

Thanks all for the quick diagnosis. This is my non-leaking drivers side rear shock. I can totally see what you mean in comparison.

 

I believe the instructions also say to only tighten the top nut until the threaded stem is even with the top of the nut so you may want to back that one off a couple turns.

Then the notching only takes a few passes with a flap disc and some rattle can to finish it off.

 

Depending on where you are located, I had previously asked about shops that can do shock rebuilding and these are the shops I was provided (you'll have to do your own research for contact info/price since I never followed through):

Noted, thank you, very helpful. Dumb question i know...but what does notching the shock bucket mean?

 

See the metal part of the shock mount where your shock is touching it? You just take an angle grinder, and grind the metal away in that area so it doesn't rub.

 

Not dumb, but one of the main points that this thread revealed was that Icon amended their installation instructions and tells you (or the installer) to "sand" the shock bucket. Basically you have to grind down a small portion of the shock bucket (circled in red) to allow for more clearance for the resi-hose fitting. This prevents contact and possible failure, which is exactly what happened in your situation.




Kind of a shame that that helpful piece of info is hidden somewhere in these 45 pages of BS, but also entertaining at the same time.

I've reached out to the shop that did the install (World Famous 4x4 in Burbank) to see what they say. Hopefully can just grind down the shock bucket and oil/nitrogen charge like you said. Otherwise, AccuTune in Carson is capable of doing this full repair?

They should be. If not, there's a lot of local people that might be able to refill/recharge for you or at least point you in the right direction. If you still have the install instructions, that might be your bargaining chip with WF4X4. I've never dealt with them but used to drive past their old shop all the time. If they can't help you, at the very least I can give you a hand grinding the bucket.

Fortunately the rear shock is quite easy to remove and reinstall making the "fix" pretty easy. There should be plenty of places in the LA area to recharge the shock as well. Hopefully your installer makes it right on their own but if not you should be able to get the shock off and recharged on your own or maybe a TW member can help you for a beer and a pizza.
