Yeh I use to do all that too..friction fires(bow&drill), flint and steel, the whole nine yards. I've been big into traditional Bushcraft. Now days I just want to get a fire going so I carry a torch and fat lighters.

thank you! - I am in Colorado but hope to get out there one day. Heard early spring can be a no go due to water conditions in the desert flats.

Last year was a heavy snow year and there was exceptionally more water/mud in the drainage area. It's such a great time to go out since it's not as hot and pretty much no crowds. Hope you make it out sometime. There is a lot to explore in the area so give yourself some time.

Love it! Have you had a chance to check one out? It was almost too warm out though so it was more for shade and I slept in the bed of the truck.

Nice, really like it! Your double tank idea is a great solution to preventing leak failures - One thing that may be useful is putting a valve on your emergency drain in case the tank does leak, most of the water will be captured by the surrounding box and you won't lose all your water in case you're out in the desert or somewhere you may need it in emergency if the plastic tank leaks. Thanks for the great idea, and I imagine this can also get rid of Taco Lean problem too when installed on the passenger side since you've added 167 lbs of water when it's full! :)

Not sure if it helps the lean so much...at least on mine. The tank is mounted in the center, but I guess you could offset it to the right. I was originally going to run some 4" PVC piping on the roof rack, but the high center of gravity wasn't too appealing. This placement never really crossed my mind until I began working on the drawers and sleeping platform. I found myself with about 2.5 feet of storage and opted to place the water tank there. Best part is I can remove it in about 10 minutes enabling increased storage when onboard water isn't needed.

Spent yesterday afternoon getting my 3 person Yakima Skyrise set up. I'll gladly take any tips or tricks from someone who has experience with this tent! So far I'm impressed.

The only concern that arose during installation was Yakima's clamp. I'm mounting on round bed bars that have a much larger diameter than a Yakima crossbar so I'm a little worried I don't have as much contact surface area as I should but I'm going to keep an eye on it as I drive around. I may try to switch to mounting hardware like CVT that is way simpler but also more trustworthy.

It's about a 15 hour drive for me. I plan to leave the Friday before Easter and drive to Seminole Canyon state park for the night, then get to BB by noon on Saturday. Don't plan on leaving until the following Saturday. I would like to get in a couple of days at Big Bend Ranch State Park too.

There's a chance we'll be moving to Houston in about 6 months. That would get me about 4 hours closer for any future trips to BB :D
