Did they say why part 5 is not covered? It is definitely part of the emissions system.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Got a cat under warranty at 135k with no codeF24557DA-BA6C-41E3-BB15-EF1566AA066E.jpg. Edit: the truck didn’t break in half so I guess the frame is ok

Hmmm, It is listed under the catalyst system but doesn't have the 8/80 designation. I think that's some BS on Toyotas part. Theres no way they can say it's not an emissions component. You'd instantly fail an emissions test if required.

    Good luck.

Fyi, headers and an O2 simulator are cheaper than one oem manifold. :anonymous:

I called the extended warranty company for information about them denying the claim.

The denied it because they said that the Toyota Powertrain warranty should cover it. This particular warranty is only good for 5 years/60,000 miles. I pointed out to them that my truck is at 67k miles and now they are re-opening the claim. So it is looking like they are going to cover it. If they do, I will let them replace it and cross my fingers that it fixes whatever the issue is.

I asked them if they had done any troubleshooting and had any proof to back what they were saying was the issue. The answer I got was "we used deduction".

I don't remember seeing any Labor Operation in MOTOR called "deduction"

Not sure what your State has where you live, but here on the Left Coast (Cali) we have the BAR (bureau of automotive repair) and not that I'm an advocate of MOREBIGGER gov't, you may want to contact your agency and let the dealership know you are doing just that. See if they change their story.

It's plain incompetence, no way should have the rear cats been replaced.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact they said your exhaust manifold/cat is not covered. That's automotive 101. You will have air/fuel sensor, cat, o2 sensor, cat. That is the order. Plain as day....take that to court. The cat that is being monitored is the one between the sensors. That is the one that should have been replaced.

I had one of my front cats (attached to the manifold) go out around 60K the code was P0420. 30K later and I am now getting a code for the opposite bank. (P0430). It is not unheard of for these to fail at an early mileage. I am told that there is a very good test available with the factory Toyota scantool to test whether the cat is bad, or one of the sensors is giving a false reading. This was done at the time of the first code (P0420). The dealer concluded that the cat was bad. The cat was changed, along with new gaskets, but not new sensors. No further issues with that side of the engine, rear cats have never been touched. As has been posted already, the exhaust manifolds, which include the front cats/precats, are covered under 8/80 emissions warranty. Also already posted, the rear cats will not set a check engine light or fault code. You should not pay a dime to get this covered. If you have issues contact Toyota directly, it's obvious the tech involved isn't up to speed. As others have posted, this is auto repair 101-two sensors, the cat between them is being monitored. Bank 1 is passenger side, bank 2 is driver's side.

My 2010 V6 just started throwing P0420 and P0430 simultaneously this past weekend. Really not thrilled about the idea I may have to replace the manifolds, since I live in Cali and my options are much more limited.

Tell me more about headers and o2 simulator options? Would this be instead of the exhaust manifold and where might I find for a 2013 4.0l?

    Why are you wanting headers?
Are you throwing a Secondary Air code?
    An O2 code?
    Or just wanting headers?

The known good reliable O2 simulators have pretty much disappeared.
There are some other aftermarket ones, but they seem sketchy and you have to tune them yourself to the right resistance.

    It can be done.
But the guys that can do it, Aren’t talking about it publicly.
So you might need to “figure it out” on your own. Or know the right guys.

    I don’t know the right guys……so I can’t help there.
