Not mine but @Redmann , Modified his 2.5 gen bumper to better fit his 2nd gen. + reinforced the frame mounting location.

While he was here at the shop, he mentioned his 285's were rubbing his cab mounts and asked if i could chop them while we had it here. Out came the angle grinder and cutoff wheel!

Well besides the stock intake no longer rattling like crazy there isnt a massive difference. except when i hammer the throttle, then there is a big difference. Plus the throttle response seems quite a bit better as well!!

Installed my lift Saturday. 5100's on all 4 corners with OME 886 coils and a single AAL in the rear. Fronts are set at zero. I also left the sway bar off.

I forgot to order a top plate spacer to account for the notorious taco lean, so I zapped one out on the plasma table, 1/4" aluminium. Drivers side to passengers side are within 1/8" of each other, pretty pleased with that!

Center of hub to bottom of fender is 23" in the front and 24" in the rear. On 265-75-16's I'm 37 1/2" from the ground in the front and 38 1/2" in the back.

    IMG_20180108_124135267_HDR.jpg

    Impressions one day in:
Handles the bumps a "little" better, It feels very similar to stock as far as this is concerned. There is a noticeable but not excessive increase of body roll when cornering.

This is a good reference for me. I've got the same model year and tires as you, with 5100's all around. I kept the factory coils on the top notch and did a 1" block (I know, I know) in the rear. Lately I haven't been satisfied with the height and am looking to do almost exactly what you've done. Are you worried about the AAL squeaking or giving you other issues? I was and that's why I went with the block, but now I think it's leaf time.

If they start squeaking I'll turn the radio up! I personally went with the AAL because I wanted a little more hauling capacity but didn't want to spend the money for a whole new leaf pack.

We did one side of the rear leaving the pack in place using ratchet straps. I can see why this might be quicker of you were practiced at it. Effectively tho it was way faster to just rip the pack out, throw it on the tailgate and install the AAL and then put the whole assembly back in. This is how we did the other side and it went much smoother IMHO.

That’s how I do them all now, instead of leaving the leaf pack in. Much easier that way. It’s so hard getting enough room between the frame and axle to get the new centering pin in.

I wish I could do that myself, would be a fun project. I don't have (a) tools, (b) work space, or (c) talent.

What brand AAL did you buy and do you need longer 5100's in the back with that set up? Why did you go with 886 coils and not 887 or 885?

I joined the knob crowd today. They fit really good. I had to get pliers to pull one off to see if it would fit on the radio knob. They fit but not very pleasing on the eyes.20180108_123503.jpg

This was exactly the issue, we had to use a ratchet strap to pull the top leafs up and it was honestly a giant PITA.

All the parts were from @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc including their own house brand AAL, BIL 24-239370 Front Bilstein 5100 shocks & BIL 24-186728 Rear Bilstein 5100 shocks.

I told them what I wanted to accomplish and they gave me several options to do what I wanted.

I had them install the springs on the shocks because spring compressors scare the shit out of me.

I went with the OME 886 coils because I'm adding weight to the front in the form of a bumper, winch (future) and 3/16ths steel skids. I wanted to get as close as possible to +3" as possible, knowing things will settle a bit but not going over because I didn't want to invest in upper control arms (yet).

There were no special tools required, I did have to run and get a ball joint puller because I didn't want to risk damaging my rubber boot using a pickling fork. Having a warm, dry place to work on vehicles is nice, I spent too many years laying in a gravel driveway working on stuff! I don't think there is any special talent involved, just lots AND LOTS of forethought and research. This forum in honestly a massive repository of information on our trucks.

RC nerf bars, OME 887's, 5100's, Allpro Expo Leaf pack. Patches for extra 5HP!

Front lift is here, waiting on rear shocks and u-bolts. 887’s and 5100. Should be an upgrade in ride quality over the pro comp lift I’m running now. Plus the addition of the all pro expo leaf pack. Can’t wait to get it installed.
