40 Million Kidde brand fire extinguishers are affected. *EDIT* All of my Kidde Extinguishers were on the recall list. Boat, Garage, and Kitchen are being replaced by Kidde. You need to submit claims for each based on the category (plastic handle, push button, and Marine push button)

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fire-extinguisher-recall-kidde-nearly-40-million/

So now what? Check all of your Kidde brand extinguishers and submit claims by category (plastic handle, push button, and marine push button). The confirmation I received stated they are sending the replacement unit in 15-20 days.

To save you time and effort, below are the direct verification links:

    USA:https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284US/

    CANADA:https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/Kidde284CA/

    You will need to provide:

    1. Your name and shipping details (no proof of purchase needed)

    2. Model Number (on side of extinguisher)

    3. Serial Number (also on side of extinguisher)

    4. Don't throw away your old units. They may send instructions to follow on what to do with them.

Fingers crossed you don't have one on the recall list, but if you do hopefully this helps speed up getting a replacement. Good luck.

One of mine was affected, got a new one on the way.

Super simple, no questions asked. Just type in your model/serial number, and bob's your uncle, it's on its way.

Ironically, the one in my truck didn't have a printed model number so I couldn't add that one to the list.

These things are so (relatively) cheap, I'm just going to replace it anyway.

Caught it on the news the other night. I have two of them affected, and they claim they will send me two new ones with instructions how to sent the oldies back. One of them was made in 1985! Its worth the effort to track down the serial numbers for this recall.

Glad to see they're showing up.

It's been 30 business days for me and still haven't seen the replacements. The confirmation I received said "15-20 business days." I understand a lot will get delayed with a recall of this magnitude, plus the holiday shipping delays, etc.

But when I called into the number in my confirmation email (that says, "call this number for questions regarding your matter") they say they have no way of tracking or finding out the status of my matter. Okaaaaay.

Thanks for the post. I had 3 of them still qualified.
FYI: Save yer boxes and such. They asked me to send the old ones back and the UPS FedEx man came quickly to retrieve them. I thought I'd put them in my garage for extra safe response. Ain't happening.

You wouldn't want them anyways. Plastic is for moms little helper not fire extinguisher handles and heads

I received the confirmation email on 11/2 and that my new replacements would arrive in 15-20 business days.

I've called twice now wondering where they are.

First call: it's the holidays so it's probably taking longer

Second call two weeks later: Your extinguishers don't qualify.

After explaining that I inputed all the information online and received a confirmation that my units are affected she said, "you can call FedEx and see if they have them." So I asked, "do you have a tracking number for me?" She replied, "no." So I asked, "so you're suggesting that I call FedEx say 'hello my name is -------- do you by chance have a package for me laying around any of your hubs or distribution centers in the entire US?"

She laughed and said, "sorry I don't know how else to help you."

I ended it with, "thank you for helping me decide to go out and buy non-recalled critical safety equipment from a real company. Kidde obviously isn't that."

Just buy something from Ansul or Amerex. They make quality stuff

FYI Badger and Kidde are both UTC owned

We don't have this brand in my house, but I sent this to my mom as I'm pretty sure there's a couple of these brand laying around.

Haha possibly. I’d hate to have to deal with all the logistics of 40 million units
