That green spot underneath the truck is coolant that I spilled while topping off the reservoir.

yes, there is very little pressure. You might trim the hose ends back if there is enough slack.

I've known my best friend Mike since April 2008 or so (I know it was after I turned 19, which was March 2008). I originally met him in a group for adults on the spectrum. He was an inaugural member of the Coffeehouse when it was founded in the summer of '08. I did not find out about the Coffeehouse until at least November 2008, and officially became a member in January 2009. Mike and I formally became friends in early 2009. I got my learner's permit (for the second time) in August 2009, got the Tacoma as a gift in September of '09, and finally got my driver's license in May 2011. Mike just turned 29 and is the only one of five original Coffeehouse members who still hang out regularly (myself included), who does not have a driver's license. From 2011 onward, Mike and I hung out regularly, primarily going to movies. He also enjoys going to car shows with me, which is surprising since cars aren't exactly his thing.

Mike is always willing to listen and learn new things, and at some point (presumably during a road trip in the Tacoma) I told Mike all about central heating and cooling systems. As a result, Mike not only knows what a heat pump is, but has a basic understanding of how one works. This includes, but is not limited too, defrost cycles...

So, when we saw steam coming from a fenced-in enclosure, Mike actually asked me if it was a heat pump. It did kind of resemble an A/C enclosure like what you'd find at most commercial buildings. I knew it could not possibly be a standard air-source residential or light commercial heat pump, but I thought it was a chiller of some sort.

This is the original picture I took...

    January 6th, 2017:

    IMG_3986.jpg

Like I said, a typical air-source heat pump could not produce this big of a steam show! Even the Amana unit at a Doylestown restaurant (seen here in a November 2012 YouTube video), could produce the amount of steam seen in the picture above!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=golDS6cJckk

A quick glance over the fence revealed that it was some sort of pool...

    January 7th, 2018:

A closer look as we were leaving the next day (remember, we overlooked the importance of buying tickets ahead of time and had to come back the next day due to tickets being completely sold out) revealed that this was actually part of a largely indoor pool, in the Aquatopia water park. However, due to the dangerous cold, it was closed...

I have reason to believe that this has been going on for a couple of years...

My truck has never overheated, EVER. Thus, I think it will be fine if I wait until it gets into the 50s (That's a damn heat wave compared to this past weekend!) to make the repair...

And that brings us to a YouTube trend I started! The steam show!

People have been posting videos of heat pumps defrosting (typically their own) on YouTube since the website's founding! However, I coined the term "Steam Show," and started a YouTube revolution...

Yea that’s what I did , just get stainless steel hose clamps (small ones for 3/8” hose) and put them on each end of the hose from the radiator to the reservoir .

If it's been 8 years and that's all you've lost. Top off the coolant and call it good.
