Intermittent audio song/artist not displaying

I tried searching around but couldn't find much info at all on this.

I have the entire/NAV head unit in my 2016 Sport and when I play music off of my cell phone it's about 50/50 whether it displays the artist and song. I tried figuring out what works and what doesn't but honestly it seems random. The unit will either display nothing or it will just say 'Connected'. I can't skip a song or anything with the steering wheel controls either.

Edit: I have a Google Pixel phone

Any ideas?

go see dealer....there is a software update you need or a new head unit

 

If I need a head unit I can go without the display. LOL. Truck has 45k on it so warranty is gone.

 

There is new software updates for the entune and navigation, can anyone confirm? Also I still have warranty so both should be free of charge, correct?

 

I had some unpredictable results and found the Entune app had updated and lost my login in the process. After fixing this things started working better.

Is it possible to pair without the app? I'd try it both ways. You'll lose some function without the app, but it may become more stable.

I'm using an LG G5 and have to bounce Bluetooth to connect. Prior to that, a Nexus 5, and it usually worked flawlessly. When changing phones requires different workarounds, I question the head. Why does it have a menu entry that talks about email when there is no email capabilities? Look at the responses to the video, this is not unusual. Does infotainment in a Lexus behave the same?

I have noticed one oddity and have a picture of it somewhere, but a Tom Petty song was playing and the album art was from a Simon & Garfunkel album. This happened playing mp3s and using Pandora, so it wasn't a matter of dicked up mp3 tags. It has not happened in about 3-4 months.
