Hey all, I know a lot of us Tacoma owners are firearms carriers, and I know I’m always looking for a good vehicle mounting solution so I don't have to have one digging into my hip or side. I personally prefer G-Code products (full disclosure, I get a lot of products and support from them, but I wouldn't go into business with a company I wasn't willing to spend money on to begin with.)
So anyway, I looked all over on my 2018 DCOR for a good spot to drill some holes and mount an RTI wheel (you'll see what it is in the pics) and most places either prohibited you from getting a positive grip on the gun, or it was in the way of other vehicle controls. The trim beneath the steering column ended up being the best place for it - as long as it was mounted at enough of an angle that you could get to it without hitting the steering wheel while unholstering or hitting the cruise controls. So it was tricky to plan out to begin with, the last thing I wanted to do was take a bunch of things apart, drill holes, put it all back together and have to do it all over again BUT it turned out rather well and I’m glad I went through the effort and did it right. Getting to the bottom trim was a lot trickier than I expected, you have to take the steering wheel completely off to get to two screws holding it on, don't even mess with trying to unsnap it thinking it will just fall free. Here are the pics that outlined how I did everything (minus taking the steering wheel off, I simply YouTube'd a vid and it was WAY easier than I expected, undo 2 screws to release the airbag -T20-, unplug the electronics from it, and one large nut holding the steering wheel on -3/4"- and as with anything, be sure and unplug the negative terminal on your battery before you start. Start to finish it took me maybe 45 minutes, and thats mainly because I had to figure out where to start before hopping online and seeing how to take the steering wheel off.

You know you can remove those two screws by simply turning the wheel, right???

I sure didn't seem to have access to them. Oh well, took an extra 5 minutes.

    Thats a badass lower/grip. That a 17 or a 19?

I really like that mounting location.

Cool. Curious where you are that you need quick access to a weapon at all times? Afghanistan, Iraq, or Chicago?

I had to go for mine once, you'd be surprised how long it can seem to take to get to when you need it. There have also been stories of people getting internal injuries in accidents (especially appendix style carriers) from the gun jamming into the body.

Its one of those "I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it" kind of things. And trying to drive comfortably with a gun anywhere on you is pretty damned uncomfortable, this is the best solution I could come up with. I have a different kind of mount for the Wrangler, but they both work equally well.

Agreed, on short trips I just keep it on me but longer ones I am still looking for a mounting/storage solution. I already have a Gcode Incog for appendix carry, may need to try this out. I tell people who aren't used to me carrying that if I thought I needed a gun I'd bring a rifle haha.

Dammit man, first the killer Mustang, then the badass Jeep, and some wicked sweet Mtb’s... now a Taco!! Anyways, I keep the 19 you did for me in the glove box, only place it fits with the suppressor :annoyed: but I dig this and wonder if I can make something from G-Code work with the suppressor attached.

I think the muzzle end of some holsters are open, so depending on the suppressor's dimensions it could go all the way through.

Edit: call them, I bet they get this question a lot. They were helpful when I spoke with them about an issue

    Looks good OP.

I had a different concept on the left side of the driver's footwell because I'm a lefty. Attached some Velcro and then an MSM Wrap Holster. I keep a Springfield XDM 4.5" in .45 in it (a relatively inexpensive spare I don't use often).

The butt of the handgun looks like a hood latch when the door is open (to the uninitiated), and I can still reach it in a second while driving. I'm also looking at ways to secure an AR pistol in .300BLK behind the rear seat for those times when I just feel the need...Pistol because it can be carried uncased in my state.

Haha the Shelby went in as trade in for the Taco. Honestly it was my least favorite mustang of the three I’ve owned. Glad you carry my work man!

Every damn day, it’s my favorite firearm I own by far. I’ve been using a Crye Precsion gun clip, but would like a set up like yours. Hate having to ditch the suppressor though. Good job with your setup. I look forward to seeing what you do with your taco!! Is it white???
