Also ordered the plastic cover to replace mine, since it's all scratched up somehow. So once that comes in, going to "tackle" the mod. OH BOY!

A bit "scared" about it to be honest... it involves removing the dash apart and taking out that whole section (which should be fairly easy and straight forward since I already removed most of when I painted my gauge cluster rings black), and removing the needles... that's the part that's freaking me out the most because I'm afraid of snapping them off. That and then I have heard that it may need to be re-calibrated, which I have no clue what or how to do it.

 

If you have already taken the dash out before I would say you are off to a good start. Remember: With the internet and some basic motor skills, anything is possible.

 

Good point. I found a video on YouTube today about taking the tach part out, so I think I can handle that part of it. Guess I'll have to put on my delicate pair of hands when it'll come to taking the plastic cover off, the tach pc off, and the needles.

 

whenever I do little stuff like that I found it helps to watch the video through once or twice beforehand and then have the video up as you're doing it so you can play and pause as you do the work step by step. Don't forget to post pics when you're done!

 

That's exactly what I do, and have done! Did that when I installed my retros, when I installed the tailgate power lock, and a bunch of other stuff.

And will definitely put up some pics after I do it.

 

That's going to look awesome! I'd be way to chicken to tear apart the dash and remove the needles to tackle something like that. Good luck!

Don't put the needles back on crooked.

 

I'm not much for finicky finish-work. I'm confident and comfortable doing wiring, but that's easy to be and all gets wrapped up in wire loom and tucked away when it's done. I've never really looked into how to remove the needles but I'm sure after watching a few youtube videos, I'd attempted it.

 

Make sure you don't leave any finger prints on the dash face or they'll drive you crazy for the rest of the time you own the truck.

It's about replacing the lights, but it gets me to where I need to as far as removing the pc so replace the tac.

Going to grab a paid of those medical rubber gloves, for when I get to the part of touching the stuff, so I don't leave marks.

 

No sweat, I'd go for that.

 

Definitely feel a bit more comfortable doing it after watching the video. But still scared somewhat, since I seem to have bad luck doing stuff. Afraid I'll snap one off or something like that.

 

Just leave the needles off. It's an easy excuse if you ever get pulled over for speeding.
