In all seriousness, if you can afford it, go for Arsenal or Molot VEPR (specially since they are no longer going to be imported). If you really end up liking the AK platform, another suggestion would be to learn to build one using imported parts kits which are abundant. Building an AK is definitely more involved than assembling an AR and you really have to be into the AK platform to commit to purchasing/making your own tools.

Romanian Guard I polished the bolt an had to put the cheapo grip on it working on refinishing the original peace. Its a blast to choot.

Not sure it came like this got it on trade will say it’s thicker than others I’ve seen an it’s chrome lined. It’s thicker stamped steel if that helps new to this platform.:sorry:

Ah, I see. Should be marked on the bottom of the receiver above the serial number. Nodak Spud possibly, maybe Childers.

I edited last post put some pics on it I’ll check when I get home. From other aks I’ve shot in the past this is heavier up front an a little more accurate.

    Pure sex right here!

If it's possible again, I wanted a Saiga Izhmash when I started considering the AK over the AR. Of course, money was an issue at the time and $650 for one just wasn't gonna happen then.

Its crazy how much the cost for the imported AKs have gone up. I feel lucky to have a VEPR 74. They banned import of them about 6 months after I got mine.

Agreed. I was just looking at parts kits. Holy sweet Jesus. I'm just glad I've got what I've got.

Excluding a 30-30 I got via trade, I haven't bought a long gun (that I still own) in nearly a decade. I don't count the POS Sig 556R I bought in '12. I owned that for almost a year, and it was at Sig for warranty work for the majority of that time. Now I spend gun money on ammo and training.

I purchased a Ruger556 in 2016 and the sight retaining pins just fell out. I've used it maybe 3-4 times and have no clue at what point they fell out. Found out when it wouldn't eject the casing after each shot. The gas port attached to the front sight disconnected when the front light go loose. Assembled an Aero AR and that thing has been solid.

EDIT: In terms of AK kits, I've purchased 4 of em. The cheapest being $250 (Yugo RPK from Numrich) and the most was a Romanian original barrele'd kit for $400.

I guess I am nostalgic for the days of $99 ROMY-G kits and $79 Mosin Nagants. :annoyed:

The Sig 556R was a fail to fire machine. Light primer strikes out of the box. To the naked eye, the primers on the rounds that didn't fire looked identical to the primers on the rounds that did. The rounds weren't duds, because my WASR ate them like candy. After three trips back to Sig, they finally said that they could only guarantee functionality if I used the same ammo that they tested with. Sorry, but I'm not paying a dollar a round for 7.62x39.

    Good buy

Anything imported from Century Arms is pretty much good to go as far as AK platforms. The WASR10 being one of these imports (Cugir factory).
Anything US made (AK of course) is no bueno :crapstorm:.
Biggest offenders being Century Arms and I.O.

Yeah those sub $100 kit days are looooooong gone bud.
They're only going to continue to get more expensive.

As far as 7.62x30 brass, I'm good on $15-$20+tax for a box of 20 brass rounds. That is the main reason I won't purchase a Mini-30. That rifle is notorious for not liking cheap steel cased ammo. I couldn't afford to plink if I only had to buy brass cased 7.62x39.

I have a Romanian Century WASR 10. Big fan of the gun and no issues after 1k rds, I know that isn't a huge amount, just don't get much range time with all 80000000000000 hobbies

I haven't bought 7.62x39 since 2008, back when it was, you guessed it, $99 a case shipped to your door. I may have stockpiled a little. :gossip:

Thats what I did with 5.45x39, when it was 125.00 for 2k rounds of 7n6. I may have bought around 10k rounds back then.
