Bosch Icon Wiper Blade problem - Drivers side end lifts off glass

I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport

I bought Bosch ICON wiper blades

22A Drivers Side
20B Passenger Side

The drivers side lifts off the glass on the top of the window, end of the blade.

Why is that? Is it defective? I read a lot of users that run these with no issues.

 

I replaced my driver's side OEM blade with an Icon thinking the Bosch would be better. It's not. The Icon fails to clear the area of the windshield directly in my line of vision on the forward stroke and only kind of clears it on the back stroke. I am putting the OEM one back on as soon as I get a chance, and I am going to see if Amazon will let me return the Icon for a refund.

I've had the same issue with mine (not Bosch but same style), who makes a good blade?

 

I'm glad you have this problem (no offense).

I thought I was the only one. Mine smeared across the top 2-3 inches on the OEM on drivers side so I thought it was the wiper and tried another wiper (can't remember what kind) . No such luck. I tightened the nut connecting the arm to the motor and that made the contact a little better but still not that great.

Next I think I'm going to try traditional blades with conventional spring arms to see if they make better contact.

No, I love my Taco and hate my wipers! It only rains like one time a year in Southern California, can't I get a good pair of blades for that one time!

 

I noticed today the bottom of the drivers side on my second gen does that. Same blades I believe. The Bosch's used to be by far the most superior blades on the market, can't say I'm really impressed with the set I just got

 

I did the same thing and spent about $50 on new blades with the same problem. I returned them and ended up getting the refills from the dealer for $20. Going forward I will only put the factory refills in there they work great.

 

I run 20" & 18" wipers. Clears more than enough of the area and don't work as hard.

 

no no no, trust me. This is going to be right up there with the rear diff recall, rear diff whine, thunk when stopping, 1/2 quart short trans fluid, and poor shift points problems. There's going to be thousands now writing in to say they TOO have the same problem.

It only takes one person to start the fire! Sit back and watch while rome burns.

 

I noticed while my wipers are on it feels like I lost 10-15 hp!

 

Well, in my case it really is a safety issue. I think basically the blade doesn't conform to the curve of the windshield well. You are seeing poor performance at the furthest extreme, and mine works well high and low but not in the middle.

By the way, does anyone know if the washer fluid is heated? I don't think mine is, or at least I haven't figured out how to turn it on.

 

i've always had the bosch on other vehicles and loved them but ya they dont seem to perform the same on the taco.
Just stick to the OEM and its like $10 to replace the rubber portion. Mine were shit from factory for some reaosn and bought the bosch and were disappointed then found out its $10 to replace just the rubber of the oem ones. so replaced it and they were fine again.

I now replace them every 4 months or so.

 

It's heated by the engine bay but that's it I would think?

I was returning from WAY northern PA and the fluid was freezing from the windchill as it hit the glass: 5 degrees F and 60mph resulted in instant freeze of the wiper fluid. -45 degrees fluid my ass.

I carry 2 bottles of rubbing alcohol for the winter. I put 8 ounces in and then the wiper fluid. brings the freezing point down a lot further. If I'm in an ice storm I'll dump the whole bottle in to the reservoir to clear the ice faster. It's cheap insurance. I don't worry about any effect of corrosion of the IPA because if it's that cold I have to put it in, it can't corrode much: the cold would slow down the corrosion process, but I've been doing this for 25 winters now without issues on the fluid system. I only mention the corrosion issue because someone told me years ago that IPA may corrode the system which is why methanol is used.

 

It gets down to -30 C at night where I am, and heated windshield fluid is really nice to have. Rubbing alcohol is a great idea to prevent refreezing, I am going to give that a try. Thanks.

 

Agreed. I've always run 1" shorter Icons than what's called for for both wipers on my 2nd gen. Shorter = I think they have a little more arc to them and this alleviates the problem of no contact on top and bottom. Shorter blades just seem overall more effective where it counts.

 

Agreed. Not just heavy snow, but heavy rain too!

I haven't taken possession of my Taco yet, so I'm not sure if 1" or 2" will do the trick, but it's worked well on all my Hondas.
