Installing Pioneer’s AVIC-8200NEX in 2016 Tacoma Off Road

yeah actually.. i don't have the nav/compass show on the multi function display over the wheel on my 8200nex either. i thought that was the deal and you only got display on the head unit itself. do you have more info?

 

No the display is only on the unit but it does allow me to use steering wheel buttons and controls on both sides though. Sorry, I see now where the confusion was I thought he was asking if the navigation still worked which it definitely does

 

Now I'm curious if there are any other differences. Do you know which firmware you're using for the Maestro?

If the 5200 passes back the data and the 8200 does not that would be something we should pressure Pioneer to fix! Or iDatalink?

 

Holy crap!!! So i purchased all the above items and was pumped to get it all installed....but then upon opening the boxes....wow wires upon wires. Does anyone have an install video to help walk me through all the damn plug and plays?! Oh ya and I’m glad I paid some attention haha because I didn’t realize you needed to flash the idatalink! When working through its update it looked like the up and down arrows will no longer do anything is that gonna be accurate?

Yes there is a lot of splicing and such.
Just take your time and use shrink and tie wraps to bundle the wires.
Once you have the harness made it all goes in the car in 10 minutes.
Thing I love about the Pioneers is the WAZE on the display radio and carplay or android auto.

 

iData also has a good wiring diagram to go by, and to flash the maestro make sure you use a Windows computer only, NOT a Mac with parallels or boot camp (I found out the hard way) and had to eventually use an older Windows laptop that I had.

 

Yeah I used my old pc and it seemed to work fine. It was odd they didn’t keep the up and down arrows on the right cross hairs.....any ideas of it will gain functionality at some point?

 

My "up and down for volume" work just like factory and the "phone symbol" works for hang up, the "man with voice" if you hold down for 2-sec activates siri. The only thing that doesn't work is the NAV doesn't show up on dash above steering wheel. I have the 8200, but I would think the 8000 should work the same.

 

Ok so I have it all but installed, gps works, radio works but my backup camera isn’t kicking on when I go into reverse. I have just a couple plus that don’t have a home so gonna post them here for help.
1) this blue wire comes off my antenna adapter cord. The small factory plug next to it I feel like is probably where this goes but I didn’t wanna start splicing without asking. I assume it’s for satellite radio.

 

2) the next open plug is a factory plug and I can’t seem to find anything that would plug into it. I bought all the necessary harnesses to make this install proper.

 

3) and lastly this adapter came with my t02 harness but I don’t have any factory harnesses left for it to plug I to. It says it goes to obdII connector?!

 

Maybe it's for reading your engine so that it can display cool stuff like the rpm and air fuel turbo afe ratio

 

The obdii connects through the radio harnesses in our trucks. It is included for other vehicles where that is not the case and needs a direct connect. I trashed mine.
You do get obdii info on the radio screens ? Tire pressure to each wheel, door open, engine specs etc ?
Don't forget 12v power to the fin antenna. It's not on the diagrams from what I remember. It's for the ant preamp. Low signal otherwise. I think it's the blue wire, will have to check.
There is a setting in the radio for backup cam to enable. I had same issue, didn't work.
Also in the radio settings allow multiple obdii connections. Scan gage ii and other things won't wont allow the radio to get obdii info otherwise if plugged into the main obdii. That drove me crazy until I found out.
Doesn't the gray plug go to maestro module ? I'll look at my notes when I get home.

 

Ok so i found the obdII connector and ran it to my wiring harness. I’m gonna guess this helps feed the trucks performance back to the radio.

But my backup cam still doesn’t work!

 

Run the obd plug to your obd and it’ll give you gauges and some other car info. It’s optional, it won’t hurt not to install it. The other plugs I’m not sure about.

 

Good thread! I have the 8200NEX installed and have zero problems. I also got the idatalink Maestro in a package deal but have no need for it...no steering wheel controls.

 

You shouldn't need to do that. It's factory wired directly to the radio already. No need to jam up the main obdii connector. I didn't need it.

 

Either it's a setting that MUST be changed in radio pages or reverse line wiring.

 

The light green wire on my factory nex harness says it’s to be wired to the parking brake. Is there an easy way to do this? Pretty sure the T02 harness already does that for me??

 

Yes. It is already available at the radio wiring as it worked on the stock unit. Can't access my notes right now.
