    I want to head down to Pismo Beach in a couple of weeks, maybe hit Old Coast Rd on the way, any Pismo tips and tricks for a beginner? I've driven past it many a times on the way to SLO but never actually went driving on the beach. I don't want to be that guy that finds out crawl control doesn't actually work in all situations.

    They don't want you to turn off any of the side road. Above silver fork, tends to turn into ski cross country trails for them on the side shoots.

    all good advice, I wish they would teach that to the rental quad riders. we are always helping them poor rookies out there, if they would follow those 3 simple rules. 99% of them wouldn't get stuck.

    They do not want you to turn off onto ANY dirt road. If it doesn't have pavement underneath it don't be on it. This is standard for El Dorado Nation Forest. They have a winter closure every year from Jan 1 to Marcj 31st. As of now the closure in not in effect. Here is a good link to see if the seasonal closure is in effect or not.
