The ToyTec BOSS Lift Thread

I just got an email this morning from toytec, The Boss 2.5 coil overs are already preset to 2” of lift and no need to adjust them. I hear alot of people having trouble adjusting the coil overs its because they dont realise they are already adjusted for max amount of lift

 

What are your issues? I'm curious, as I've noticed my coilovers (boss 2.5) are extremely stiff, 6 mos after install now. I mean night and day difference. Toytec told me they've never heard of anything like that. I'm scouring the forum now to see if anyone has had the same issue.

 

Quote mine feel very stiff as wel, as stiff as the stock sport suspension my truck came with maybe stiffer....

 

My passenger side coil over went bad after 4,000 miles. It's at RadFlo (maker of the Toytec coil overs) for analysis so they can determine if they'll warranty it. They've had my coil overs since the beginning of December and still no word though.

 

Just ordered the 3" Toy Tech Boss with full rear springs (not add a leaf), Light Racing UCA's, and bump stops for my now stock 2005 TRD Offroad ext cab 4x4.

What is the biggest tire I can fit under it on the stock 16" rims without trimming and have no rubbing at full lock? Running 265/70/R16 on it all stock now.

I'm thinking 285 will rub for sure and 255 will be ok from what I'm reading. Is that right and can anyone confirm from experience?

If the 255 will be good what tire is anyone running? I wanted the BFG's but I'm being told they only make them in mud terrain in that size and not all terrain. This is my daily driver so I want to stick with an AT.

 

I run a 285/70/17 on stock wheels off a Sport (on my TRD OR) with the Toytes Boss 2" lift and have no rub, but I have Spidertrax spacers on as well. Not sure if that helps. Second set of BFG KO2's and I love them. Some people bash them, but I think it's baseless.

 

I'm trying to stay away from using spacers...personally I don't think they are safe.

 

Because of moving the center of wheel further from the hub, or worry about failure of the spacer?

 

I stay away from spacers as well, i just webt with toyotas trd pro 4runner wheel which has a decent offset which gives that more agrressive look people want

 

Looking from some guidance from the Awesome TW group. I'm getting very close to ordering a Toytec lift and have a question from the group on the rear leaf spring choices. Does anyone have a preference and why, on ToyTecs Boss leaf springs vs. OME Dakar leaf pack?

Here is the specs on what I'm thinking:
Front:

Have not decided on this: 1" body lift for additional tire clearance and lift.

 

285s without spacers or offset will definitely rub. 285s with spacers will require some trimming (my current setup with KO2s), From what i've read 255s dont require trimming at all. If you are ok with the pizza cutter look I would go that route.

 

All of the above, plus spacers can considerably shorten the lifespan of your wheel bearings.

 

I’m looking to buy the boss 2.5 (maybe with Resi’s)and Dakar leafs but I’m on the fence about which UCA,if at all considering it says it’s made to use with stock uca. I was going to go Total chaos but I’m not familiar with the “modification” required can any one chime in on this? Also I will be towing a 21ft boat couple times a month so should I do resi’s on the rear with the Dakar pack to help with the added weight ? I’ll also want to stuff 285’s if possible. Is this possible to rub without the added boat weight ? Or should I just go smaller? I’m not looking to CMC if possible

 

I have the boss 2.5 resi in back and dakar leaf pack. Im runnng 275/70/17 you will def rub with 285s. You should be fine towing if you get the dakars and not the add a leaf as the add a leaf will sag overtime. As for upper control arms its personal choice, total chaos will give you more caster and you will have more downward travel which is great for offroading. You cannot keep the stock uppers as you will have issues down the road. Light racing uppers are cheaper alternative you just wont have the built in caster.

Edit- if you dont want to do a CMC go with 275s you will only have to remove front mud flaps. Also get the bump stops, toytec doesnt mention it in the description but you do need them especially if your going to be flexing the suspension offroading

 

Alright Tacomaworld, I need a hand. I have the boss 2.5 w/resi’s OME Dakar leaf pack, TC UCA’s, and running 305/65/R17 Cooper STT Pros. I’m putting them in this weekend, and would like to know what everyone experienced or problems they ran into installing them. Anything, and I do mean anything would help!

 

It would affect your wheel bearings no more than a wheel with different backspacing would.

 

If anyone gets the boss lift and you get squeaking. Grease the upper control arms and it will fix it. I had bad squeaking after 1k miles. Originally thought it was the coil overs.

 

This was a really useful thread that nudged me to go for the Toytec BOSS with rear AAL for my 2017 TRD OR DCLB. With 2 young'ns, a wife, a job, and a woodworking hobby, there's no way I was doing the install, and it was a little tricky finding someone in Seattle who a) was knowledgeable, and b) didn't insist on installing a leveling kit. Fortunately someone recommended a local-ish dealership (Michael's Toyota of Bellevue) and their accessories team was really knowledgable. They stocked the BOSS (as well as OME) and seem to do a lot of lifts on showroom models. They also stocked the new wheel/tire combo I wanted (TRD Pro wheels, BFG KO2 275/70R17). From my first reaching out to getting the install today was less than a week.

I prefer the look of short bed trucks better, but LB made more sense for how I use it. The lift finally made me really love the look of the long bed. Super happy. It's also got a bit of rake (hub-to-fender was 23" front, ~24" rear) which I like as I'm frequently hauling lumber or yard waste.

I didn't replace UCAs. We'll see how that goes. Again, thanks for folks who contributed to this thread and helped me make a decision.

 

So far, so good with the BOSS kit on the '08 4Runner, about 8k miles, SPC UCA's, lot of towing, I have Firestone airbags on the rear with the RCC 2.0's.

BTW, BOSS is Eibach shocks customized by Toytec. Eibach and Toytec have a longstanding relationship.

 

Just to clarify this a bit:

• BOSS 2.0 is built by Eibach to Toytec's spec sheet for their determined valving.
• BOSS 2.5 is built by RadFlo to Toytec's spec sheet for their determined valving.
• All Toytec coilovers use Eibach Springs.
